Odd hearing Jack Edwards playing the victim card ... when the Bruins do it, it's a hockey play ... don't forget to vote using the link at the bottom the CBC page ... 53% of respondents said that Prust's money was well spent ... Canucks' Brandon Prust fined for spearing Brad Marchand in groin Infraction against Boston forward happened Saturday night The Associated Press Posted: Dec 06, 2015 6:26 PM ET Last Updated: Dec 06, 2015 6:26 PM ETVancouver Canucks forward Brandon Prust was fined $5000 US by the NHL on Sunday for spearing Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand on Saturday night. Prust told reporters it was the "best money I've ever spent." A 10-minute misconduct was assessed for the incident in the third period of the Bruins' 4-0 victory in Vancouver. However, Prust also claimed he did not intend to hurt Marchand. "Just frustrations, happens out there. I wasn't really trying to injure him," he said. "I was just coming back because the puck was coming back up the boards." Was $5K fine appropriate penalty for Prust spearing Marchand? in Polls on LockerDome Link

We all know that Marchand is as verminous on the ice as it gets…and he DOES embellish, dive, etc. He might've been cheaping it up earlier in the game, causing Prust to exact revenge on their last shift.
But if he speared Marchand just because he doesn't like him, that's beyond cheap. So, until I know the context, I really can't judge.
Ugly part of the game….that apparently doesn't warrant a suspension. What's $5000 to a guy in his 4th year of a $10 million contract? Same fine Lucic got for spearing DeKeyser. (I don't think Lucic was fined anything for spearing Emelin….)
Circle Thursday, Jan. 21st. The Canucks will be in Boston for their final meeting of the season.

Like you're alluding to, CH, I wasn't on the ice, so I don't know what led up to this, but Prust isn't the kind of guy to just single out a guy for a spear ... something set him off and it could have been part of the on-ice game we don't see from our perspective ... didn't break my heart, though ... just listening to Edwards after was like listening to a glorified fan with a mic ... I couldn't listen to him until the end of the clip ... man, are the Bruins ever hard-done by ...
Cheers.

Hard to say whether Marchand did anything to incite him. Given the video, it would appear that if there was something it wasn't on that shift (to my eye). It was still cheap though. Just drop the gloves. The game was nearly over, and the outcome decided. Beating him 'within the rules' would have accomplished the same.

It was just another stupid move by Prust. Even if it is Marchand it was uncalled for. Spearing is dirty & dangerous.

Then again, Vancouver can look back on a few years of Marchand's BS. He lives by the sword…and a cheap one at that...

Prust says Marchand was laughing on the bench afterwards, and because of that probably "wasn't that hurt." Nonetheless, I'm not upset that Prust is gone. I wasn't a fan of how he was constantly going after Bishop last year against Tampa. Too much of a distraction. Good luck, Vancouver.

It looked like a pretty good jab from the video I saw. No tears from me either way. Marchand deserves far worse than that.
