A good point was brought up on TSN690 this morning ... Subban is highly underrated as a shutdown guy ... McDavid was shooting a hot hand when he came into Montreal ... Subban shut him down very well ... Cheers. I don't think he's underrated on his d capabilities. Just the same haters who won't give him credit for anything. Most knowledgeable fans know he's tough to play against and is always up against other team best forwards. Unlike Pretty Boy in Ottawa. this. Regarding Plekanec as a playoff performer, there's no question he has a bigger drop off. My concern with him has always been his unwillingness to take a hit to make a play. That becomes more evident in the playoffs. He's still sharp defensively, but when goals are hard to come by he doesn't go through the wall to get them. It's for this reason I was more than reluctant to give him an extension. As a support piece, yes. As a focal point, he's not the player to get you over the hump.
