On the other hand, it's not a sure thing that Kotsitsyn will become a superstar or even an occasional all-star. He seems to have much to learn before he can compete successfully against solid NHLers. We should not automatically assume that he will maximize his gifts. Talent isn't everything. True enough, Kostitsyn may never amount to anything more than another Alexei ("Call me Alex") Kovalev. However, averaging 28-37-65 per 82 games in yesterday's NHL ain't teabags at all—and the price would be right. Next season we should see the 20 year-old unleashed by Jarvis the kennel master.

I'd be content if Kostitsyn became the peer of Kovalev. Until Kovalev began to strut his stuff in the playoffs I thought the Habs were a slightly better than a middle of the road, not particularly exciting team. Look at how he sparked Koivu and Zednik. I wonder, though, if Koivu and Zednik will still be around when Kostitsyn arrives. A lot can happen because of the lockout and lack of progress in the CBA negotiations.
