Pavel has announced that despite having another year on his deal at $7.5 million he's leaving the Wings and the league go home and be closer to family. He's quoted as saying that looking back at the 3 year deal he signed, he'd wished he'd gone year by year instead. He goes on to say that he almost left last summer, but stayed on out of respect for the Illitch family.

The kicker is Detroit is on the hook for 7.5 million on the cap next year because he signed his last contract at 35 yrs old.

Pavel may decide he wants to play in the KHL. This decision is about being in Russia year round. |

That sure has an impact on Detroit's cap for next year. Maybe that darn streak finally comes to an end.

All their key players are old. Their best of the rest are complimentary pieces on most clubs. They're stuck with Zetterberg and his deal. There's not much to lure talent at this point. Add in the political turmoil surrounding the city and it's just not a place I'd have on my list. |
