The Albany Devils smoked the depleted IceCaps 6-2 last night in the NY state capital. Lindgren got pulled after five goals, and Danis conceded the final one. Goals came from Lernout (1st) and Scherbak (10th), and both Audette and DLR kept their hot hands going with assists. That is 9 points in the last 10 games for DLR and it is 8 points in the last five games for little Audette.

I mentioned in the TO GDT that the IceCaps had signed two forwards to PTO's, they are up to four players in total today. Yes, the first one is McC's big brother.
John McCarron (F) Reggie Traccitto (D) Alexandre Ranger (F) Anthony Camara (F)
In other news, Skilly's Conan the Barberio and Charlie Lindgren were named to the AHL All Star Classic lineup. Congrats lads!!

Decent depth move for the farm. The kid is still young and has shown decent speed and skill. He had the team's only goal last game. Edit: This is now contract #47 of a limit of 50. Still room for Berg for the rest of the year if needed.

The lineup riddled Caps won 2-1 in OT against the Syracuse Crunch behind a 32 save effort from Danis. Camara (PTO guy) and Audette in OT with the goals.

Do my eyes deceive or is 8th place Caps currently in a playoff spot? It is true. I am so torn. I would love to see these guys get some real pro playoff experience, at the same time, I would love to see a clean slate of coaches to start fresh in Laval next season. Could we be so lucky and hope for both?!?!

Now that they're in a playoff position, we can confirm that the previous 4 years were all PK's fault. Don't worry, it's a mirage. More seriously, I think it's fair to say that a prime reason for the improvement so far is goaltending. Not that it was terrible before, as Lefebvre had some decent goaltenders, but Lindgren has been playing exceptionally well. As well, it's becoming apparent as more and more guys come up from the AHL and play for the Habs, that Lefebvre has a very talented team. Many of these guys would be in the NHL if they were in the system of weaker NHL clubs.

Skilly will like this. This is a little more textbook on how to turn a two on two in OT into a 2 on 1 and then how to properly execute a 2 on 1 and score a darn goal. Nice work by Audette, who is really having a bit of a rookie breakout with the new opportunities being given to him with the injuries and call ups. I was not convinced from juniors, but will gladly be proven wrong if he can keep it up.

What a horrible play by the defender who took Audette. Even a simple brush of his shoulder would have knocked Audette off stride and prevented a 2 on 1. If I was the coach that guy would have a strip taken off him. Audette made a good play, but that turns into nothing if the defender simply gets in his way.

Tonight's IceCaps game against Hartford is being shown on RDS on tape delay tonight starting at 8:00 pm ET. They are also showing it again tomorrow morning at 9:30 am if you miss it tonight. It is a pretty depleted lineup, but it still will have guys like Scherbak, Audette, Lindgren, and Lernout. Hudon is skating again but not sure when he will be returning to the lineup. He was injured (ankle) after a collision with teammate Farnham of all people.

So, the IceCaps faced off last night against the Utica Comets, a team trailing them in their division. It was looking good on paper as Lindgren was the starter, and the top line was all "new" again with both Terry and McCarron returning from their Montreal stints, and Hudon returning from 11 games being injured. The top line did their job, as both Terry and Hudon scored and McC assists on both goals, but the team other than those guys were just not quite where they needed to be to collectively get the win. Final score was 5-2. Both teams are back at in again tonight. Here is hoping for a better result for the home team.

Utica making up ground on the IceCaps, and get another 3-1 win tonight. McC with the only goal. Danis with the loss.

It was an interesting week of mixed emotions for big Mike McCarron. He ended being assigned by the Habs to St. John's but received a consolation prize by being re-established on their first line with fellow returnee Terry and Hudon fresh off the IR. He did get a goal and an assist in two games, which accounts for points on every goal the IceCaps scored with their pair of mid-week tilts with Utica. However, the team lost both games. In the second game, he had a chance to experience something for the first time...playing with his big brother as a teammate. I am sure he would rather still be with the Habs, or at a minimum would rather have won both those games this week, but I am sure this will still be a very special and memorable week for the big guy. www.thetelegram.com/sports/hockey/2017/1/19/mccarron-brothers-finally-get-to-be-teammates.html

I think McCarron is going to be good third liner at some point. However, I agree with Bergevin that he needs ice time and I wouldn't mind seeing him finish the year in the AHL. I hope Sly plays the daylights out of him.

They actually got 3 of 4 possible points against the team that is tops in their division and is notoriously stingy in giving up shots and scoring chances (sure sounds a lot like their mother ship too). I did get a little chuckle, that you might enjoy, when I read an article on the Telegram about yesterday's game where Lefebvre said (to paraphrase) that it was a tight checking game like they should expect in the playoffs. How would he know?? They are still in a playoff position right now, which is pretty good considering all the call ups and injuries. Their goalies have kept them in games more often than not.

Their goalies have kept them in games more often than not. Developing them to feel comfortable when they join the big club.

IceCaps vs Marlies is on RDS tonight on a tape delay. Game time is 8:00 pm ET, compressed into a two hour broadcast (no long intermissions!!).

Not a very good showing over the weekend in the pair of games against the Marlies. The televised game on Friday night started off great, with the IceCaps scoring in the second minute and truly buzzing all over the Marlies. In fact, the home team got the first 12 shots on net. Then the Marlies scored on two of their first three shots. The end result was a 5-3 game, with Lindgren getting the loss and Farnham, Veilleux (PTO guy) and Johnston getting the goals. The third line of Friberg, Farnham and Veilleux was the best all night.
The Saturday afternoon game was an early 2:00 pm local start to accommodate those that had to travel to participate in the all-star festivities (Lindgren and Terry for the IceCaps). It was even more of a dud as Yann Danis was in net and got absolutely no support as the home team fell 4-0 to the dreaded visitors in blue and white.
The Marlies are currently in fifth place (just out of a playoff spot) and trailing third place IceCaps by just three points, with one game in hand. These were huge points to keep a bit of a buffer on that tentative playoff spot that St. John's still finds itself clinging onto. The good news is that the league switched playoff format to give playoff spots to the top four in each division. Had they stuck with the old format of the top teams in the conference, the IceCaps would be looking in from the outside. As it stands now, they have a very tight two point lead on Utica and three points on the Marlies, both of whom have one game in hand.

montrealgazette.com/sports/hockey/stu-cowan-canadiens-brass-launches-rocket-in-lavalThere are three packages available: season tickets (38 games, plus two preseason games), half-season tickets and Flex 20 packages for 20 games of your choice. Those packages will go on sale Feb. 11 with season tickets ranging from $15 per game to $30. The half-season package ranges from $18 per game to $24, while the Flex 20 package costs $24 per game. Pretty decent prices, all things considered. The nod to the Rocket, with the #9 and all, is nice, but I still think they would have been better served to go all-in with the tie-ins to the big club, and call themselves the Montreal Junior Canadiens. Same uniform and everything. But that's just me. Instead they're going with this. It's nice... but its a new brand, when I think they could have piggy-backed on top of an existing one. Sure, it might hurt in terms of sweater sales, but better to get an extra thousand people in the stands, than trying to sell a few more shirts. /oldmanrant

I like these uniforms. I'd like them more without the 9 on the forearm. Two numbers on a sleeve is a bit much. As for the prices, I think that's very competitive. There are CHL teams charging more than that.

Nice clean look to the uniforms. I think the #9 and other stuff on the mid to lower arms are a bit much though, seems too "busy" for a clean, classic look.
The current team should get a nice boost with the returns of Redmond, Carr and Barberio (if he clears).

Perhaps the #9 could be moved to the space above the Habs logo on the pants ... or just above the "CCM" logo on the other leg ... it's a good description, though ... the jersey looks a bit busy as it is now ... but if it's busy you want, just look at some of the European cereal-box unis ... Cheers.

As for the prices, I think that's very competitive. There are CHL teams charging more than that. Ah, but are you getting the same value? The AHL players are obviously more skilled, but you get a lot of entertainment in a CHL game, often because of the mistakes that are made. I'd have a tough time making a choice on that. Probably would depend on who's in town.
