Julien's hiring seems to have inspired the IceDogs at least. They beat Suyracuse 6-1 behidn two goals and an assist from...(drum roll)...Jacob de la Rose. (I wonder if he's related to Claude Larose? DLR was voted first star of the game as well. Wouldn't that be a surprise, if he developed an offensive game? theahl.com/game-summary?game_id=1016659

At the end of last season DLR unleashed some beautiful snipes, so he has occasionally shown some skill with the puck. If he can just develop a tad more offensive instinct and confidence he could be a very good bottom six guy for us down the road. He has size, speed and is really responsible on the defensive side of things. If he can just chip in a bit offensively, he could have a shot to stick.
Maybe Berg can keep his head coaching change trend going!

As for the prices, I think that's very competitive. There are CHL teams charging more than that. Ah, but are you getting the same value? The AHL players are obviously more skilled, but you get a lot of entertainment in a CHL game, often because of the mistakes that are made. I'd have a tough time making a choice on that. Probably would depend on who's in town. If you had both to choose from, I can see it being a challenge to decide. Having spent the majority of my life in the Halifax area, I can vividly remember the NS Oilers and Halifax Citadels. The Voyageurs, while the first game I saw live when i was roughly 5, is little more than a blur. The Oilers weren't great, and Citadels were absolutely putrid. When they left, in favor of the Mooseheads, a party was held. The Mooseheads have had ups and downs, but their loyal following has endured. Perhaps it's the idea of getting to see the future of the game play. Perhaps it's youthful enthusiasm. Even at their worst, the Mooseheads were and are a better product than we suffered with the previous two tenants. Still, there's a caché about having a pro team. One hopes that with the team closer to home, management makes some changes. They won't be able to hide in St John's. They'll be under the watchful eye of fans keen on seeing the next crop.

I'm assuming Julien's system "tweaks" will cascade down to the IceCaps as well, giving Sly a more puck-possession type of system to work with. Not that I have any kind of renewed faith in SL, but it will be telling if the IceCaps improve their record over the final stretch.

Well after that big 6-1 win on Saturday, they came out nowhere near as ready to play on Sunday against the same Crunch and came up short 5-3. They have had some chronic problems this season which were very evident against yesterday afternoon. They took 8 penalties (and gave up two PP goals) and were playing from behind for the game. Can't do that and expect many wins. Their hold on
Lindgren played in the B2B and was handed the loss yesterday. Terry had 2g + 1a, and now is second in AHL scoring. Hudon got his 18th for the other IceCaps goal.
They are still hanging on to the 4th and last playoff spot in the division, thanks to the even poorer play of the three teams trailing them. However, their margin is not huge as the teams trailing do have games in hand.

I was offered a ticket to the suites for Saturday's game (complete with the free beer and food) and turned it down. If the team is not going to be invested in this city, then I can't find it in me to be invested in them

What not to do after jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first...lose in OT. Albany Devils beat the IceCaps 3-2 in OT last night. Goals by Hudon and MacMillan. Lindgren took the loss but made a ton of big saves from the highlights. Rematch tonight. m.youtube.com/watch?v=rzok1rGFknY

IceCaps get the split tonight against Albany, 5-4 behind a 29 save effort by Danis. Hudon with 2g 1a, Terry with 1g 2a, and Lernout and Matteau with the other goals. Hudon now ties Terry with 21 goals this season.

Big weekend on the road for the IceCaps, as they have three in three as they push to maintain that fourth and final playoff spot in their division in what should be a tight battle down to the wire. www.stjohnsicecaps.com/article/preview-icecaps-kick-off-road-trip-with-three-in-three/Saturday's game against the Marlies will be shown on TSN2 at 6:00 pm ET. It looks like it is a compressed broadcast, so a version of Marlies/IceCaps express. You could watch the Windsor-London game (three prospects in one game!!) in the afternoon, watch the IceCaps compressed game, and then watch the Habs in Manhattan against the Rangers. Or you could fill up your PVR and get the heck out of your man/woman cave and enjoy your Saturday!!

LIndgren is giving them excellent goaltending and the teams behind them that might overtake them in their division, suck. The new playoff rules have helped Lefebvre out.

Well deserved extension. He has been the straw that has stirred the offensive drink in St. John's this season, as he was just recognized as the AHL player of the month. He has not been able to find much offense when he has been up with the Habs, but he will provide great leadership and offense while he is down in the AHL. Interestingly enough, Berg did feel that Andrighetto was expendable since both Hudon and Terry had passed him on the depth chart.

IceCaps with a great start to their Brier road trip. 3-0 shutout over Rochester for Lindgren, with goals from DLR, Lernout and Scherbak. Nice finish from DLR and a real nice three way passing and sweet snipe by Scherbak. m.youtube.com/watch?v=2zMAkfWBrTw

Lefebvre's found his Price. Regardless, it will be good for the youngsters to experience a real playoff.

3-0 win this afternoon. Scherbak, De La Rose and Terry with the goals. Danis didn't have too much difficulty pitching the shutout. I liked Hudon and Scherbak both had good games. Carr was all hustle out there. De La Rose played well but I see him as an AHL calibre player still.

Did you guys pick anything up off those goal celebrations? Have you seen any group of players less happy about scoring than in these 3 examples? Are they attending a funeral after the game? What the hell?

Huge win for the IceCaps in the standings as Utica boasts a slightly better win percentage and holds onto that last playoff spot by a fraction. Nice goal and assist by Scherbak, but boy was that goal set up a gift by really bad defending.

De La Rose's goal was also off a really bad turnover by the Marlies in their own end. The Marlies were sloppy all afternoon. Although they did pull their goalie for long stretches in the third with about 8 minutes left. The Ice Caps could barely touch the puck and were scrambling to gain possession. They had maybe one attempt at the empty net that missed by about a foot. There was also a lengthy 5 on 3 for the Marlies that the Caps killed off. Danis earned his shutout in those two instances. The rest of the game was pretty calm.

I only saw about 5 minutes of the game, but of those 5 minutes, part of it, the Caps were on the penalty kill. It was hard to tell, but I think they were playing more of a diamond than a box formation. There wasn't enough for me to tell the difference (if I'd recognize it anyway). It seemed to me they tended to have one guy at the top, but it was a short term sample.

Can't teach the hands he displayed on his goal. DLR showed his speed on his goal. That's about all he has to offer at the NHL level I'm afraid.

Nikita has to understand who's boss, NWT. Capitulation is more important than development. Lefebvre and Therrien seem a lot alike, with the exception being that Therrien had Price on his team and Lefebvre didn't.

Syracuse crunched the Caps tonight 4-2, so they slip another tiny fraction behind Utica for the last playoff spot. Darn good thing they switched up the playoff format this season. It had been the top eight in the conference. The IceCaps sit 10th and would be very far out of it already. The fifth place team in the other division is ahead of the top team in the North Division. Now it is top four in each division. They are fifth in a really sucky division.
Lindgren gave up three in the loss (last one was an EN goal), and Friberg and Matteau got the goals.
