The Avs have signed MacKinnon to a 7 year deal with AAV of $6.3 million.
The Jets have signed Schiefele to a 8 year deal with AAV of $6.125 million.

That Schiefele deal is the scary one for the Habs
Galchenyuk will be looking at that and more. Galchenyuk is and will be better than Schiefele

Galchenyuk is one of few electrifying talents in the entire organisation, people jump out of their seats because uniquely creative and confident guys do special things.
Forsberg got 6 million per season after only two years of NHL service.
Next summer Galchenyuk is two years away from UFA. I see this costing $6.5 million/yr.

Galchenyuk is and will be better than Schiefele Habs have quite a bit of salary coming off the books next year. Likely Markov's last year, DD be gone, PAP be off the books, chance Elemin be traded, 6m should be doable

Gnick, it is true there should be money to get deal done with Galchenyuk. For my son birthday this autumn I think to give him customized replica home #27 Habs jersey. With my luck, Bergevin will trade Galchenyuk next summer.
Also it is worth monitoring Beaulieu. If he plays at high level this season, logic says you lock up young puck-carrying d-man rather than offering him another two year bridge deal.
Non-superstar puck moving possession d-men are expensive. For me, Torey Krug 5 yr- 26 million says it all.

If he is paired with Weber, which I suspect will happen. Josi was only marginally better in A than Beaulieu. Look what Weber did for him? If Beaulieu had a better shot I think he could score 50 pts. Also, wouldn't overly suprise me if Plekanec is traded next draft. Depends on how young guys develop. Freeing up another 6 million.

I think it all plays out who the Habs protect in the expansion draft. Lets say Price, Weber, Beaulieu, Petry, Gallagher, Patch, Chucky, Shaw, and *Radulov* (pending re-signing) are the guys kept. Whatever is leftover would be potential cap savings if selected (Pleks/Emelin??)

I think "no", because Emelin has a (partial) no-trade clause, not a full no-movement clause (which even stops the Habs from sending him to the AHL). General Fanager has only Petry as having a full NMC that requires him to be protected in the expansion draft.

According to Sportsnet: " Players holding no-movement clauses – including those modified by limited no-trades, such as Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury – count against the protection limit, provided that those contracts and clauses extend through the 2017-18 season. However, players with no-movement clauses on deals that expire June 30, 2017 like Calgary Flames defenceman Dennis Wideman or Minnesota Wild forward Thomas Vanek wouldn't have to be protected for a draft that is likely to be held a week or two beforehand.Teams will also be permitted to ask players to waive their no-movement clauses for inclusion in the expansion draft."Similar information from "The Hockey Writers":"Additionally, Johnston clarified that players with no move clauses that include a limited no trade clause must still be protected. That covers players like Pittsburgh’s Marc-Andre Fleury. However, players with a NMC will be allowed to waive it, should they chose to do so. That could produce a situation, hypothetically, where L.A. convinces Dustin Brown to waive his NMC and then offers a Vegas franchise some incentives to draft Brown."

No way Emelin is the 3rd defenseman protected. Petry, Weber and Beaulieu.

Hmm, that would make it seem that Emelin's days are numbered. well, I guess if he is one of the top 6/7 left unprotected . . . and there's no better Hab available.
