Sigh. It gets tiring, planning yet another parade after yet another impact Bergevin signing. Ok, it's probably just filling out the Brampton Beast roster and it's nice to see he signed a centre. But...the odds of Mr Ebbing making the NHL are really slim. He projects as a 4th line checking centre who can't score. But, if he can help Laval win a playoff series, it's a move in the right direction.

These are the UFAs you can sign presently. He's a warm body for the lower rungs. No one expects the kid to make it. That's why it's an AHL/ECHL deal. They have to ice three rosters between Montreal, Laval, and Brampton.

Except you see teams signing players from the KHL, Sweeden leagues that have a higher potential and you wonder where the pro scouts are....

They have to ice three rosters between Montreal, Laval, and Brampton. That's why I elaborated a bit after my initial caustic remark. So here's a question? Will they sign Matt Bradley? Draft choice from 2015, steadily improved and finished with 77 points in 70 games. You'd think that if they're stocking up players for the farm teams, Bradley seems a better choice than Ebbing. I haven't seen either play, but Ebbing is 2 years older, a worse scorer and while he may develop, he cetainly looks more like a warm body right now. From the little I've read, he seems to be very defensively responsible. (Chuckle) Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens with Bradley. I didn't think he had much future either, but the comparison has me curious.

Quite a few surprised that they have not signed Bradley yet either, and I likely count myself in that camp. I have seen a fair number of his games, including a few live. I think he is a long shot to be an NHL player, but he is a solid two way Centre that provides good secondary scoring for the Tigers (and soon to be the Pats if he is not picked up in the draft this year when he re-enters).
As for Ebbing, a depth AHL/ECHL guy with pretty lukewarm numbers. I would be happier if they were after guys that could put more pucks in the net. Anyway, does not impact the 50 NHL contract limit so these guys usually fall off the radar pretty quickly.

He's a 5th round pick. Who knows who/what has held up talks? He had a good final year on a team largely led by over-age players. Ebbings seems purely ECHL, with an outside shot at AHL. I don't think it affects Bradley one way or the other.

The contract limit is likely a large factor in the decision.

The contract limit is likely a large factor in the decision. According to capfriendly, the Canadiens currently have 33 contracts with an NHL component. I don't see King coming back, or Brian Flynn. That frees up two. Galchenyuk and Beau are RFAs. Once signed, the club is at 35 contracts. Sign Radulov, or a replacement. That's 36, and includes Jerabek. Remaining RFAs include: MacMillan, Thrower, Lowe, Lindgren, Crisp, De La Rose, Hudon, Hanley, Matteau and Johnston. Farnham is a UFA. That's 11 players to sign. Whether signed, or replaced, that totals 47 contracts. I don't know off the top of my head what sort of buffer Bergevin likes to carry. There's room to sign Bradley if they can agree. There's room to add to the NHL roster without removing as well.
