Round 1 Results Willie Dog - 11 pts NWT - 10 pts Seventeen - 10 pts Skilly - 8 pts CenterHice - 8 pts Tankdriver - 8pts Franko - 6 pts Dschens - 6 pts We get points!? Are there, like, rewards at the end of the day based on how many points one accumulates? Can I spend them on Amazon or exchange them for Canadian Tire money? I'm all in now that I know there are points. Wait. How did I get 10 points? I was right in 6 of the 8 series. What kind of math turns that into 10 points? Pout. Kudos to Willie Dog for getting every series right. It's beginners luck, of course. Either that or he's the guy who stole my operating crystal ball.

I summoned the amazing Kreskin to predict the outcome of the 1st round... I won $1500 on proline once(in the 90s) betting on 6 games 3 were ties... havent played since... figured i used up all my luck.

That way no one gets eliminated right away, and you can change your # games up to catch up

At least we get a reprieve from all the Leaf hype until October.
Expectations are rising, and therefore anger and blame will surface if next season also results in a 1st round exit.
The clock starts to tick on Shanny-Lou Babcock in Year 4.
It's bad enough now. Gardiner is really catching it today. So is Andersen for not performing well (i.e. committing larceny) in Games 1, 2, and 7.
Cherry extolled Andersen as "the best goaltender in the world" several times during this series.....of course, when he was stealing Games 5 and 6.

At least we get a reprieve from all the Leaf hype until October. Yesterday was almost unbearable. Leafs and Raps in playoff games. Jays at home to Sox. TFC in Mexico. It all added up to "the biggest day in Canadian sport ever". That was the hyperbole being thrown around.

At least we get a reprieve from all the Leaf hype until October. Expectations are rising, and therefore anger and blame will surface if next season also results in a 1st round exit. I already know of one Leaf fan here at work who wishes Toronto would have selected Patrick Laine instead of Austin Matthews ... my friend (he's 56 years old) sees Matthews as "mommy's boy" who will be constantly on/off the injury list ... Toronto will be back next year and I suspect they'll be better ... it might be different in Toronto, but most of the Leafers I know here are pretty disappointed with the 1st-round exit, but for the most part they're pretty happy with the strides their team made this year ... mind you, I saw some very long faces this morning and I do think the fan base (in general) was expecting more ... Jake Gardiner was brutal last night ... what? -5 in the game ... he might have been a turnover machine, but it also suggested to me that Mike Babcock might also have gotten out-coached on a few shifts ... another thing he could have done was size up Gardiner's game to that point and then consider benching him ... the Bruins had their way with last night ... Cheers.

They were 1 for 4 with only the Raptors winning. What are they saying now?
When they start spewing "biggest day in Canadian sports" crap it's an insult to the other cities. And then they wonder why there is anti Toronto sports sentiment.

But not for Montreal. One thing you can always count on....anti-Habs Canadian broadcasting during the playoffs. We could be playing the North Korea Nukes....wouldn't matter.

Yep...last-place finish and this great "team man" has been throwing Hardy Astrom under the bus for 38 years. The more I see Cherry, the more I see his pattern. He manipulates EVERYTHING to shine on his brilliance. Great/smart plays: "When I coached the Bruins, I always told 'em to do THIS...."Mistakes/dumb plays: "When I coached the Bruins, I always told 'em to NEVER do THIS...."In reality....he was handed a great roster in Boston...and never won the Cup. He also employed goon tactics. "When you skate near Lafleur, have your stick up..." kind of nonsense. A Jack Adams win in a season which saw both Al Arbour and Scotty Bowman have better records. But hey....without him we wouldn't have won the '76 Canada Cup...just ask him! For a sport that oxymoronically boasts of the humility of its great achievers, Cherry is the antithesis.

Watching the playoffs and I have to say the skill level on display is very high.
The Bruins=Leafs series alone shows how far off we are. Boston has great depth up front - the old core of Bergeron, Marchand and Krejci is still playing at a high level and now Pastrnak is a legit top 6 guy, DeBrusk looks like a real keeper, and then vets like Backes and Nash. Their D is pretty weak but they have two of the better puck movers in Krug and McAvoy (who has looked like a rookie in the series).
The Leafs have top picks all over the ice... but man what a GAG job in the 3rd period. Toronto fans are such homers, but I'd be pissed as a Leafs fan. Yes, they are young and talented but that's 2 straight 1st round exits, and they just fell apart last night. I'm sure they will spin it as a learning experience, but they were clearly the better team for 40 minutes before totally crapping their pants. Not a good way to end the year.
Overall, this is the best the NHL has looked in years. The first round series have been highly competitive and there are quite a few teams that are legit threats. I can see any one of TB, BOS, WSH, PIT emerging out of the East, and Preds-Jets could be an epic series. I just can't believe Vegas will get much farther, but I was shocked when they swept the Kings. The Sharks/Knights series should be good too.
The NHL is great, scoring is up, great matchups....Sad that we aren't a part of it.

And MTL wont be a part of it for some time.
Bergevin has no plan other than to compete for a lot of other teams for the services of Tavares & hope for a high pick. It's like planning for your retirement by buying lottery tickets.
Molson & Bergevin had their PC & promised change. What happened? They fired probably the worst coach in the AHL but, inexplicably, left the rest of the staff in place. IMO it's a sign of disrespect to the fans. Molson & co. Think we will buy the sacking of Lefebvre as real change when it is nothing more than shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
MB has proven he's behind the times. It's more important for him to keep his friends ( or their children) employed. Properly building a team & an organization seems secondary. Molson, as has been posted before, is a product of nepotism so doesn't see anything wrong with it.
Molson won't sell & he wont fire Bergevin. We're in Leafs/Ballard territory now.

Kuznetzov scores 17 seconds into the 1st & it's still holding up. 1-0 Caps after two.
EDIT: just noticed that this 2018 playoff thread is on the Non-Habs Hockey board. Ha!!

And I'd say that we haven't been a legit threat for a really long time.
Since 1993, I'd say that most of our limited playoff success has been due to hot goaltending. I don't recall much about the 1995-2001 years...head over heels in a new career....so perhaps we weren't as reliant on our goalies. I know injuries plagued Vigneault's tenure....and that Jeff Hackett stood on his head a couple of years in a row (maybe just 1?)....then it was Theo, Huet, Halak, now Price...
SCORING. ELITE TALENT.
Wait....check that....
ATTITUDE!

I forgot about Guentzel, who's on fire.
1G 2A in the third as the Pens erase a 2-0 Caps' lead to win 3-2.
Murray looked very sharp.
Uphill again for Washington.
