Couldn't kill the motor (305) or tranny... but the body went to Saperlipopette. My cousin kept telling me to turn it into a sleeper... drop a big block into it... I wish I had taken better care of it Those rat infested Nova's couldn't get around a corner without guardrails. I drove a few in the day and they would go in a strainght line, mostly, that's it. I bet that you know what I mean by "rat". How about a 850 Holley? If you want crazy, then a "dual quad". Sheesh....more stuff from a half century ago......just what I need to feel "younger".

That's a true sleeper... low rise intake with 2 4-barrel holleys... all hidden under the hood... if I had one now I'd keep the exhaust stock but put in electric dumps so when I open it up it'll sound like an NHRA funny car

Down south, deep south, i drove a mid 60s Ford Fairlane "stock car" that was closer to a NASCAR refugee. 4 point roll cage and all. "Mild" 427. Absolute ****** beast. I drove it for a week and nothing, absolutely nothing came close to that viscerial car. It would pull easy tens AND no Darlington stripes when taking corners. The sound....the sound.....oh good God, that sound. That said to 442 pretenders that "i will kill you, eat you and wash it down with a few beers". Lol... Today, these millenials squat and hand granade the engine of their third hand civics and think they got holly grail. They haven't and will never meet Satans stroked 427s or dual quad Hemis. I'm almost ready to do a "life change"....including building a house with a six car garage and a full workshop. The boss even likes the idea of an Eleanor.....but only mildly beasted one. Memmories.....and wishes.

I've got a 98 cobra convertible and when I retire I want to build a condo garage and restore classic muscle cars... first one will be a 65 - 67 gto... hopefully a convertible... that's the plan anyways

Agreed. I knew a Brian who lived near Courtenay and Dovercourt but I don't recall him doing that. I'll ask my brother who did his elementary school at Broadview and grade 9 at Nepean if he knew him. I use to hang out with the Auclair twins, the Barrett's and Letourneau's. Some of us use to travel all over playing street hockey with kids from other neighbourhoods. We even played a couple of games at the elementary school on Maitland (forget the name). That was considered the other end of the world. Good times! When we moved to Selby and Churchill, I became good friends with the Atkins kids and Charbonneaus. Atkins Sr became my commanding officer almost 15 years later in Edmonton. Again, small world... I don't remember an elementary school on Maitland, but there was one on Woodroffe near Richmond called Our Lady of Fatima... just down the road from the YMCA and the Carlingwood shopping centre You are right and I'm getting old. It was actually St Daniel school on Woodroffe. As HA was mentioning, once you had a bike (mine was a totally modified blue cougar complete with banana seat), the world got bigger. Although we traveled as group, I don't think today's parents would have allowed us the freedom play so far away. As was often the case, you'd end up meeting kids that you would later play against or with in minor hockey. The era came to an end when I moved to the UK.

Cobras connys are great for cruising! I'm not much into Goats but I can see the attraction. Plus you have to dig deep to find a mint body AND spare parts. Part of the beauty of Eleanor is that you can buy a completely new one for about 100k. Aftermarket full bodies, trim, EVERYTHING. For me, no glass hood and beauty trim. "Basic" car "rethought" with modern engine, brakes, air, etc. I wont do Webers, Hollies and wonky a/c anymore. I was going to order a Porsche 718. Took one out for a day with the boss sitting right next to me. She was "comfortable" in it. WRONG ANSWER. Great tool, but lifeless. She asked me the next day if I was going to buy it and honestly, I was disappointed. It just didn't do anything for me. Sure, it was fast, reliable, on the track, it probably could send the 50 year old Fairlane into the weeds, but LIFELESS. Great as a sporting daily driver, but certainly no wannabe NASCAR blood boiler. Life is too short....and getting shorter. P.S. I have complete machine shop at the plant and will bring it to the new house. Industrial level lathe, knee mill, CNC, welders, the works. Even some sheet metal bending machinery. Also have the skill to back it up....but as I'm getting older, not so much the thrill. Part of it is not having the "crazy comrades" or the project to spur it on. Soooo...if you want to drop in a stroked 460 crate motor and REALLY put some wind into your hair, let me know. Bring music and shine......

Love the idea of a new Eleanor... great idea... turn key operation That machine shop sounds amazing... oh the tools... make your own parts I'm going full rotiserie restomod on my goat... crate motor, magnaflow exhaust, wilwood brakes all around, new suspension, shorten the rear end and maybe put in tubs and NOS parts... I want at least 14 inch wide tires in the back

My friends wife secretly followed her kids to school up to when they were in their early teens. They were Precious Ones...and still are. All too common with our baby boomer friends. My fathers instruction was...."watch out for the cars and be back by dinner time. Here's a quarter to buy some chips and a Coke". And it's getting worse. Today, there is a serious danger of foot injury from falling i-phones and ear-buds.

Somewhat related.... Reading Dusters post and the....."That was considered the other end of the world" comment. I remember when I got my first bicycle at about 7 or 8 years old, all of a sudden, all those far away places like 6 blocks over were within the newly minted explorers reach! I couldn't wait to take the bike the next day and do some more exploring. Maybe even go as far as TEN BLOCKS! It wasn't just a bike, it was a deep rooted feeling. Which makes me wonder if it's part of our DNA. Also, I wonder if these days, parents will allow their 8 year old to go a couple of clocks away, never mind 10 blocks in an inner city. Funny, I felt the same way about my first car... a 1977 Nova Concours (the luxury model) lol... 4 door cream coloured car... Man I loved that car. I had the best times in it. Any chance that I might have seen this car at the start line lights at Mr Donut ... Cheers.

I do recall racing a trans am back from hull one night, he almost took off his front spoiler crossing the eb eddy bridge
