I'll toss out a different analogous player - Mike Bossy. Mike wasn't small, but he wasn't physical at all. He was an ok skater but would never be classed a speedster. What he had was a tremendous release and an ability to get open and finish.
Yes, no disputing that Caufield is small. Like Bossy (and Brett Hull) he has the ability to seemingly become invisible, have defenders lose sight of him and then 'poof' he materializes and everyone wonders why on earth they left THAT guy open. He's also pretty good at receiving passes, an underrated skill.
Certainly he's going to find he'll have less time and space in the NHL than anywhere else, but he's been smaller than his opponents everywhere he's gone and it hasn't stopped him.
We'll find out in due course if his game translates. At least he's still scoring in college, at a very good pace.

Caufield is what? If only the league was filled with Mete's in defense.....

Oh sure...thanks for those "another bust" painful memories. I only remember him as a name and a bust. Looking at his history, Locke had 151 points in the OHL and an AHL woderkind......with 1, ONE point in the NHL. By 30, he wasn't even AHL material. Let us see......and I hope my Caufield concerns are unfounded....

Here's hoping he's our Mitch Marner or Johnny Gaudreau.

Loved his offensive instincts in the OHL, but he was small and had seriously sluggish skating. Killed him when he moved up to the pro ranks. Hit his ceiling. Really liked the pick. Low risk, high reward late in the draft.

Of course, the other thread shows Caufield and his three great snipes last night, but Hillis also managed a three point night and set a new career high in points. Nice goal going hard to the net.

McShane with a good game today. Three apples in a 7-4 win that is just wrapping up on Sportsnet. Showed good vision. Drew a penalty, hit a post, and had a few good shots that generated good saves. Draft eligible Tullio and Suni look good. Tullio’s skating not the quickest though.

Hillis is progressing nicely as he should. What I find interesting is that this Pavel Gogolev has even more points then him and is undrafted. He has the size but I find nothing about his abilities. Does he have some kind of uber unfixable weakness?

I was looking up Caufield and UofW.
One thing that stood out was LA's 5th rounder, Alex Turcott. On paper, as a 5th rounder, he should be showing up Caufield, but it's not happening. One would think that 5th overall are closer to AHL material with NHL tryout in their dreams.
Still far too early.....but......

Caufield is having a pretty nice season as an 18 year old in a league where 21 and 22 year old guys generally get the bigger ice time.

Does he have some kind of uber unfixable weakness? Gogolev and Hillis have great chemistry. I would use a mid round pick on him. He has really come into his own this year with all of the stars on Guelph graduating in the offseason. He is getting more prime time ice time and pouncing on it.

Most of the skilled players in the AllStr game were first round picke (hi picks). Our first round picks are no longer with the team. Who accepts responsibility? Lower picks may become fourth liners. We already have 25 fourth liners.

Tough news for Olofsson. First, his injury keeps him out of his last eligible WJC, and now after a few games back, he is done for the season. He was playing very well leading up to the WJC too.

Caufield and Pitlick keep it going with two point nights, each with 1g 1a in their respective games. What a blast from Caufield.

CC with a goal and an assist last night.
Elsewhere in the NCAA, Struble went down hard on his leg, was in a lot of pain, and did not return. Does not look good.

Caufield with two assists last night, for a four point weekend. Really nice play on the first to force the turnover and then feed the guy in front.

Speaking of assists, Fonstad added two more last night along with a goal. He is currently 10th in WHL scoring and second in assists, one behind the leader. Hillis added a helper last night and is tied for 11th in OHL scoring and 5th in assists,

Northeastern are in the Beanpot final tonight against Boston U. Harris will be on display. Struble has missed the last few games with injury, so not sure he will be in the lineup tonight.
Game time 7:30pm ET on TSN5.
