Master class in smothering that was. What did the Penguins end up with? 22 shots in an elimination game? Few, if any, of the dangerous type? Great team defense. Clearly the plan was to simply out-wait the Penguins, and that's what they did. And it wasn't a New Jersey Devils circa 1996 defense either, it was just relentless puck pursuit all over the ice.
Ah Alexie... we hardly knew ye.

Going on a deep run would make it worth it. For me that would mean winning at least Conference quarterfinals and better yet the Conference semis too.
I have no expectation that a small team with questionable depth can win three or four rounds.
Getting bounced in the round of 16 would be tough because then it is hard to shake the feeling the organization is still stuck in the middle without the talent to contend and no likely way to get a major infusion of it.

Does this feel a little familiar? The year we picked Galchenyuk at 3 overall we made a little run instead of tanking again for a top 5 pick...now we are repeating the same mistake with J.K. and Caulfield. Another top 10 would of solidified things.

Not sure what to feel ...couldn’t stop laughing for like 10 Minutes especially after I found out it was Sids Birthday...hey the experience for Suzuki KK etc....is awesome against a pretty decent team. Hoping for Tampa for a glimmer of hope on Prices back but the boys are in deep now but it’s all money in the bank for the kids. Hopefully MB can make a signing of offer sheet or package up picks to improve this team.

MB will do nothing, he will resign the vets and say the team is moving in the right direction... if he does anything major it might be to move Max but that's it... it'll be small stuff.

We'll have to see if he stays on the 4th in the next round. He also badly needs to learn to backcheck. I'd rather move him for a youngish LD or a true winger, though.

I'd rather move him for a youngish LD or a true winger, though. That is the science, craft, and art of strategic management. Should Bergevin believe that he has found some fool's gold in this wonky 24 team post-season and thus covet a high first round pick (Buffalo's, for instance) because that is part of the plan of building for a window that really opens in three years when Suzuki and Kotkaniemi enter their mid-20s? Or should Bergevin interpret the 2020-21 season as the next huge step forward and thus if he deals Domi (or Tatar or whoever) then he has to get back a good roster player?

I will waffle between the Alexis Lafreniere sweepstakes and the Cup run, no longer ... it's all full steam ahead for the Cup, now ... nice to see Artturi Lehkonen with the winner ... the guy flies under the radar on most nights, but his compete level is through the roof ... the series MVP would have to be Carey Price ... he had the help of is posts, but he deserved that shutout just on the way he kept his team in the series ... It wouldn't surprise me to see Marc Bergevin package picks and (minor pro) assets to improve the team ... that might now include moving up in the draft ... all that said, I'm a tad disappointed that we won't have a chance at Lafreniere, but I won't dwell on it, my distraction now is the playoffs ... the guys worked hard to take out Pittsburgh, and they've got my attention ... Cheers.

Congrats lads! Well earned and I love it! Surprised at the tempered reactions by most. These are the G.D. Montreal Canadiens. We always complain about how these players don't have the pride of the teams in the 60s, 70s, 80s...well as fans, how can you look at yourself in the mirror wishing for these same players to lose in the hopes we get a 12% chance at maybe a generational talent. What are the odds that he turns in to the player we would expect? I'm not talking about the equal to a Mathews or a McDavid. Yes, those are great players but what have they done? what have they won? If Lafreniere doesn't become the best player in the league, then what? What if he's hurt? Again, not to bore with stats, there is also an argument about picking 9th vs 16th or worse. Let's go back starting in 2016 as players have had some time to develop, i'll list the 9th overall pick first. Which team are you taking? Sergachev vs Chychrun Timo Meier vs Matt Barzal Nik Ehlers vs Sonny Milano Bo Harvat vs Nikita Zadorov Jacon Trouba vs Tom Wilson Dougie Hmilton vs Joel Armia Mikael Granlund vs Vlad Tarasenko I think you see my point. Make the best pick with wherever you get slotted. Listen, i still can't stand Bergevin. Julien makes me scream at the TV. etc, etc. But the lads are in the playoffs. Back in September, it's what we wanted. Go back and look at the predictions. I think i was one of only a couple that had this same group of players with only a few minor changes as predicted to miss the playoffs. Let's enjoy the ride.

Can't share the "euphoria". I got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. We've won nothing and we've likely lost a whole lot. This week may haunt us for 2 decades. Not only missing out on Alex but if TO (or Edm or Pitt) lands him I will be sick.
So now we face the top seed and probably go out in 5 or 6. Fact is Pens have a very weak D. And Malkin isn't close to the payer he was. So we beat a marginal team. Am I impressed how we played? YES! But I've never felt so 'off' after a Habs win.
The league has made a colossal error in this draft formula. They should have let the 7 non-play-in teams go for the top 7 picks in the first lottery and then the 8 play-in losers participate in a second lottery for 8-15 picks. In no normal universe should TO, Pitt, Edm and Preds be getting #1 overall. And if TO loses tonight or tomorrow, there will be a 50% chance of that happening. I am so pissed that we are in this situation. It may effect the league for decades. Only hope is Lafreniere is Alexandre Daigle revisited.

The reason why we won? I hate to say this but CJ out coached Sullivan... 1st 2 games Pitts has 20 scoring chances off the rush... last 2 games they had 6... CJ made adjustments and Sullivan didn't
