If the importance of this game is not self evident to the players, then nothing is.

I think we will put in good showing tomorrow. Calling for 4-2 win.
We'd had some memorable playoff battles with Flyers. Some of my favs are:
- The '76 Can't beat them if you can't catch them Finals.
- The '89 Conference Finals when Hextall tried to take Chelios head off.
- Rookie Larry Robinson overtime goal of '73.
- The '87 pre-game brawl.

That 1987 series still stings. I was at Game 3 in Montreal after we split the first 2 games in Philly. We put like 20 shots on net in the 1st period but we were "only" up 2-0. That stuff can often come back to haunt you and it did. The Flyers ended up winning 4-3 despite being outshot 39-18. We never really recovered. Plus Patrick Roy was awful that playoff year. Got yanked in the Quebec series for Brian Hayward and that was it for him.
The pre-game brawl in Game 6 was bizarre. Turned on the TV at 7:30 for the telecast and it was mayhem!
Habs kind of asked for it when they started a habit of firing the puck into the opposing net at the end of their pre-game skate. The Flyers were the wrong team for that kind of nonsense.

Man, I remember that series vividly. I must have been 11 that spring and was still very susceptible to emotional meltdowns, screaming and crying included. I loved those Habs teams of the mid and late 80s.
Nowadays I stay calm, but my son who is 8 took the loss last night pretty hard, screaming at the power play, screaming at Chris Lee, etc.

Jeje, Chris Lee was definitely not there in 87. But I am pretty sure he was working his magic for the Flyers last night.

It's pretty much under control now, especially when there are people around but it bubbles to the surface now and then.

I have anger mismanagement issues....so I don't watch live games.
Back in the day, the mood swing in the games were something to behold....and the cursing exceeded any international seaman standards.

Jeje, I hear you bud. I get mad on occasion but I keep it rated G for kids.
When Nico is screaming and carrying on, my wife often peeks into the room and gives me a disapproving look as if I am the one pushing him into anger, sorrow, and despondency. It's just the passion for the Canadien that he somehow internalized from a very young age.

I came by all of this stuff while I was researching GDTs ... I was reluctant in using the '87 pre-game brawl, but I'll include it here ... I was living overseas at the time and I only saw it on YouTube a short while back ... Cheers.

That 87 team had toughness throughout the lineup... Nilan, kordic, McPhee, corson Skrudland

The '73 series is often over looked. Flyers won first game at the Forum and Game 2 went into overtime. When rookie Robinson scored in overtime. The Flyers played us tough that year. If we had been down 2-0 going back to the Spectrum and Kate Smith it would be tough.
It was start of the Broad Street Bullies. They would go on to win next 2 Cups.

I actually remember the play and Larry Robinson's comments afterward ... back in the day I remember him saying that Frank Mahovlich was skating in with him and told him to "shoot!" ... however, in this video, Big Bird says the Big M said "keep going" ... I remember the goal, anyway ...

We came out skating in sand. No flow. I didn’t expect to win this series, but ya gotta come out harder than this.
Now we’re off to the box.

The boys need to wake up. They look sluggish and insecure with the puck.

Gallagher loses puck at blue line & the turnover Leafs to a goal by Raffl.
It's bad enough he's contributing nothing offensively.

The best chances fall to the 4th liners.

A near-perfect period by the Flyers ... Alex Belzile with a great chance only to miss by a 'country mile' ... that was easily the best chance of the period for the Habs, and they could have used it ...
Cheers.
