Listening to it now ... fast-forward to 2:45 and Stu Cowan starts talking about Max Domi ... excellent update on Claude Julien ... "The Montreal Gazette's Stu Cowan joined the show to talk Claude Julien's hour long press conference with members of the media including Philip Danault's role, Max Domi's future, Jeff Petry's upcoming contract and more."

I read elsewhere there is a pending trade and they are working on his extension and/or the one coming to us.
Tjere may or may not be a Gaudreau in our future...or a Laine.
Patience....

Be carefulwhat you wish for.....
In order to add Gaudreau you may be looking at 7.5 million and 8.5 million for Laine.
We may get one year before Gally, Tatar and Danault become a dollar issue.

You add Laine and Caufield and trade Tatar and Dano for help on D... put Domi as 3C... our team just got a lot younger

I heard the Patrick Laine suggestion from Andrew Zadarnowski on a TSN690 segment that was posted elsewhere ... he didn't say too much other than the Habs were actually interested in Laine at one point and it must be revisited ... I've only read about Johnny Gaudreau here on our boards and, I don't know why, but there's a red flag with me over Gaudreau ... can't put my finger on it, just a feeling ... are there any sources citing the Habs interest in him ... would much rather bring Laine online, instead ... Cheers.

They lost big buff.. they need a rhD True but losing Perry would create a huge hole, but Bergevin has done that before. Stu Cowen did some connecting of the dots, and some things they talked about suggested that Jeff Petry may very well end up with the Red Wings once he's a UFA ... he's originally from Michigan, and he wants his kids to be educated in the US ... it's all in the clip, anyway ... losing him would suck huge, but he may want to finish off his career in his backyard ... as for Max Domi, he's already removed the Habs from his Instagram and Twitter home pages, and he doesn't seem to be a very happy camper ... I can see why, though ... he really took to the city of Montreal and I think the city took to him ... good luck to him ... Cheers.

I would trade Domi for Gaudreau, so long as Bergevin was busy this off-season making a couple other small wings disappear from the roster. But that idea that Montreal would add a first round pick and Poehling is a non-starter in my view.
I am pretty sure Hamonic is going to sign in Winnipeg. There is no question they could use additional RHD, but it will not be Petry. He can block a trade to 15 clubs and it is probably one of the safest bets in the world to put money on Winnipeg being right there at the top of that list. My sense is that Bergevin really wants to keep Petry. I guess if Montreal tables a good offer to him and he says he wants to test the waters then Bergevin will have to deal him next spring.

Not good to hear about Domi. He certainly fell from a year ago.
Bergevin generally good trader. Needs to be patience, like Pacioretty trade wait until right piece is available. Either now or trade deadline
Gaudreau I don't know enough about to comment on.

It is fine that we do not hear publicly from Domi that he only wants to play centre. But it seems like there are signals appearing and reappearing for months now that suggest that is probably the case.
Bergevin just lived three weeks in the bubble alongside the boys so he should have a good sense of Domi's mood and focus, etc. Also, it should not be hard for Bergevin to figure out issues like the player's relationship with Julien, the player's preference to play centre and the term/money range on the player's next contract since the Habs' GM talks often with his pal Pat Brisson.
Bergevin can afford to be patient. There are no pressure points upcoming anytime soon.

I don't know. I look towards the future and see a top line of Suzuki, Caufield and Gaudreau and think this has got to be the smallest line in hockey in decades. Acquiring Gaudreau is not an option I'm too interested in exploring unless we rid ourselves of a few smaller players already on the team. It's not like we have a Tom Wilson, Ryan Reeves or even a Nicolas Deslauriers on the team.
OTOH, after reading Spector's this morning, Anthony Mantha's name was mentioned and the Wings are looking for a center. A top line (in 2 years) of Suzuki, Caufield and Mantha sounds better to me. I find that Mantha uses his size better than a Patrick Laine who is the better sniper, but with Caufield on the line, a sniper is not needed as much.
So is Domi enough to lure Mantha out of Detroit. If not what do we add.

In Gaudreau I would see the Canadiens repeating the pattern of going for skilled but small. Gaudreau also has pretty bad playoff numbers so I would be much more interested in Mantha. He brings a much different attitude and presence to the Habs.

Suzuki, Caufield and Gaudreau IF they are successful, they would also be the easiest line to punish in decades. Common sense says that you don't put all three together. Actually, common sense says you don't bring in another small forward that plays smaller. I rather have Mantha who can make space or even Monahan. Laine plays smaller, but he's 6'5" and can afford it. He certainly wont be ini, mighty moe on who gets leveled. I don't like a Gaudreau trade....

Cheers.

Of there is a deal pending then it's a pretty tough slog.
I'm pretty sure that Domi has a 7 million dollar dream in a 5 million dollar suit.
Or it could be whoever is comming back is also dreaming in vivid dollar colours.

If Domi had put up 70 points this season and the cap had gone up to $83-84 as had been projected, then yeah he may have been a $7 million dollar man.
But unfortunately for him neither of those happened.
He may have to take a medium-term deal to ride out the economic storm and prove he is that 70 point guy, perhaps something like 4 years/$20 million. In that event, Domi would be up for a new deal at age 29 in the summer of 2024 when league revenue should have healthily recovered and all the losses from 2019-21 absorbed.
Bergevin needs to be patient, but it also can't take forever because eventually the player would have an arbitration date scheduled and his trade value is not going to be maximized by Domi playing 2020-21 on a one-year contract.

No one is coming knocking for Domi. He was a bust this past year and is not really known as having a great attitude - in fact often quite self-absorbed and me first with selfish penalties and always wanting the spotlight. Time for him to stop sulking and prove he is legit next season.

As the days go by, it looks like false hope.
However....maybe there is a verbal agreement with a current playoff team that can only proceed if they are out. Yeah...i'm reaching.
Or not....but the Gaudreau/Laine deal looks like hot air.

It's common sense really. This playoff season has shown that Domi doesn't really have a spot in the lineup. We're looking at Suzuki and KK as a possible #1 and 2 C for the future. That leaves Danault at #3 and Evans #4 with Poehling waiting in the wings looking to earn a spot by dislodging one of the 4. Where does that leave Domi? On the wing? He spent a good portion of the season pouting when left there. And Julien recently said that Domi is a center. So again, where does that leave him? At this time, the center position is a position of strength. So we deal from a position of strength to get something we need. Size and skill on the wing. There's always teams looking for centers out there. Whether it's Columbus (Anderson) Detroit (Mantha), Winnipeg (Laine) or some other team, there should be no shortage of teams we can do business with. And we also have all those draft picks, some roster players and some prospects we can add to work out something.
