Kreider got 3 tonight and has 29 for the year and takes over the league lead. Not bad for a guy who makes 4 million a year. Meanwhile, our 8 million dollar center got his 8th goal tonight It's going up to a 6.5MM cap hit next year and for the next 7 years. That contract won't look so good in 3 years time. Besides, the Rangers have won diddly squat so far, but we would indeed have been better off with Kreider than Leblanc, or Marcus Johansson or Kyle Palmieri, all taken shortly after Leblanc.

I guess the Oilers needed a Battle of AB to snap that totally brutal losing streak. Watched part of the game. Bouchard’s pair of PP goals in the second seemed to really switch the momentum into the Oil’s favour after getting behind, as usual, 2-0 in the first.
It still will be interesting to see what Holland does regarding his goalie situation.
I guess the biggest train wreck is Philly right now. What the heck is going on there? Freefalling.

Kreider is in year two of that 7-year contract so the end of the contract will likely not be pretty. However, Kreider was a safer bet in my opinion because he has high end wheels and he is a big man without a history of injuries. Gallagher is the opposite and Bergevin's decision seemed more like a guy handing out a 'lifetime achievement' contract detached from a rigorous analysis of what the player would likely produce.

Interesting timing by Rutherford, considering they have not completed their GM hiring yet (down to final five candidates per twitter today).
Now reports out of Montreal media are that the Habs did not interview her. Anyway, another move from player agent into NHL management from a smart lawyer who actually interned with the Habs under Gauthier while at law school, I believe.
Her highest profile client was Alex Lafrenière, but she also represented a number of Quebec players including two Habs prospects: Roy and Trudeau.
Congratulations 👏

Good hire I’d say. Nice to see more balance in the front office. Cuts down the number of bathrooms the’old’ GM’s can use, though.

At what point does Bettman’s big ego get out of the way and acknowledge that hockey just is not working in Arizona? A 5000 seat arena for a number of years now. More arena drama in Arizona.
And here is a team about to sell off its best young defenseman when the only team in the league they can beat right now is the Habs.
Do the 31 other owners love propping up a big money loser year after year?

The London Knights have a bigger arena. Jeez, nothing says minor leagues like a tiny stadium. What a joke. Will they even fill that place?

Kane should be desperate yet he gets 2 million prorated and a no move.
I never understood the hire and now this proves it. The Oilers desperately need goaltending and he signs the most toxic player in the league. Holland is a moron.

What are the public health rules in Alberta regarding crowd sizes? I was watching NHL highlights and see Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto playing in empty buildings yet in Edmonton the arena looked full,

The Oilers desperately need goaltending and he signs the most toxic player in the league. Holland is a moron. Holland was under pressure in Detroit to have his team make the playoffs, so they could set that record (if it was one) of making the playoffs 25 years in a row. That and $3 gets you a coffee at Starbucks. It was so useless, but he never stood up to the owner (that we know of). He is desperate again in Edmonton for different, perhaps more pertinent reasons, namely Draisaitl and McDavid. Yeah, I'm not sure I would have paid $2mm, but what if some other fool was willing to pay almost that? Or if they were in a low tax state (the biggest single problem with the NHL today outside of the idiots in HO), they wouldn't even have to offer that much. One is allowed to wonder, however, if adding Kane is really an addition or a subtraction. The Sharks seemed to improve after he was turfed.

It's on their NHL page if you feel like sitting through it for over 30 minutes.

You've got to hand it to the Red Wings, when they blow a lead they really blow a lead. They were up 4-2 halfway through the 3rd in their game against Toronto. Somehow, they managed to allow 5 goals in the last 10 minutes and lose 7-4.

Well, Julien is still getting paid by the Habs so of course the injury curse finds him…even in Davos.
Seriously though, what terrible luck for Claude. The Olympic dream crushed with a fluke accident at a team building thing in Switzerland.

I read on NHL.com that over the course of his career Marchand has forfeited $1.4 million in fines and suspensions. I guess being a dick has a high price.

Marchand is a tool. I have no problem with him messing with Crosby because those kind of things flare up after a star player (Bergeron) leaves the game injured. But the stuff with Jarry was pure idiocy on Marchand's part. Goalies are protected in a way that no one else gets protected so it boggles the mind that Marchand could have imagined that he can punch the goalie in the side of the head after the whistle and then double down and hit Jarry's mask with his stick without a suspension coming.

How selfish can you get? He put his childish impulses ahead of his team & now the Bruins will suffer. Cassidy needs to get him behind closed doors and blast him. I'd be tempted to give him a club suspension for being such an a hole.

Arizona wins tonight against Seattle. A full 5pt buffer ahead of the Habs As Monty Burns says EXCELLENT I was hoping last night that Seattle would also get a loser point out of the game, but that was getting greedy 😆 A few of the other bottom ten teams won as well. At this point, even with a “Marty Surge”, this should be a bottom three-five finish at worst. They have just dug far too big a hole at this point.
