This is why i have issues in how we jump into all kinds of conclusions to "run them out of town" and "tar and feather" without the full picture. This seasons Toffoli is a shadow of himself...and now we know why. Same with Petry and probably Ghally. Youre right we dont have the full picture and it's why we get mad and angry when a player plays like Saperlipopette. So why is Toffoli playing if he's hurt? Whose fault is that? Is it the coaches? Is it the players? Time for this organization to take the decision out of the players hand and that, to me, is in the teams and players best interest... this is what I hope Gorton (hereby known as The Commish) brings Players are always playing with pain. Even in no touch beer league one comes out with sprains and hurts. Ask my wrist. Never mind 230 pound men hitting other man at 30kph. So how much pain? No pain? Dreamland. Some pain? How much? Reality right now with the Habs that it's team wide "minimum pain"....

Reality right now with the Habs that it's team wide "minimum pain".... Players playing with aches and pains yes, but when it looks like they fell off a cliff production wise, then someone has to take control, even 8f they tell him to sit for a few games and watch from the press box, a few things get accomplished, the aches and pains start to go away, if they dont you know you have something more serious. Also it gives them a chance to watch the game from a different viewpoint...

Perreault and Armia added to the IR list. Lehkonen added to the COVID protocol list. Paquette is in isolation awaiting a COVID test result.
Habs forced to call up three more from the Rocket, who are off for the next 11 days anyway.
Ladies and Gentlemen, here are your Montreal Rocket!

Most teams are either playing short or with call ups. Most likely the league will shut down by the end of the week. Good news is, if they want to open up later next year we will not be anywhere close to the playoffs and will be looking a top draft pick. The shorter the season the better, better draft choice and less misery watching this team.

I may be a bit selfish but I am hoping they play a full season. Not for Hans entertainment but so Ovie can keep racking up the goals to surpass gretzky.

Yeah.... but I'm thinking some rental returns might be lower, or conditional, since everyone can imagine the playoffs being called off. Our only high-end rental is Chiarot, so it's not as bad as it could've been.

There is no way the playoffs will be called off. all the "experts" are saying this Omicron nightmare may last up to 2 months. That puts us to the end of February. Ample time to have 25-35 games of regular season, and then playoffs. No way Bettman does not present a Cup this summer. There will also be a trade deadline sometime before the playoffs and a lot of teams will think they got a shot.
I actually think we will get more value for our players than in a regular season. The real question is who will Gorts want to trade. Chariot's a no brainer. I'm hoping he can deal Drouin, Anderson, Hoffman, and Savard. That will free up a lot of cap space and these guys will not be missed as they are easily replaceable.

And this initial lockdowns were for 2 weeks.... so at this point you can't assume anything. Every politician and media outlet is trying to make things look better than they are, whereas there is little reason for actual optimism. We might have bubble play-ins and playoffs like in 2020, so I guess everything is possible.

Was listening to Friedman last night and it appears do be just a matter of time before the league announces that they won't be going to the Olympics. I am sure the thought of being quarantined in China for weeks has a lot of prospective players having second and third doubts. And now the pausing of cross border games. Bettman and the league can use the Olympic break time to make up games and keep their precious revenue stream as intact as possible. I would think both the NHL and NHLPA have very compelling reasons to cancel any Olympic participation at this point.

I believe you are right, NW. I do not believe all of the top players have the same unwavering commitment to going to the Olympics that, say, Crosby and McDavid do.
And with the Canadian clubs' hockey related revenue very likely taking a hit over the next few months, that translates into the league's hockey related revenue coming in lower than what Bettman and Daly were estimating a month ago.

I would totally sign Marky for the rest of the season. It would be a classy move to get rid of the Bergy stench.

There were several abysmal Berg moves during his tenure and letting Markov go over a probable $1MM difference (and giving 4.5 to Alzner instead), was near the top. Yeah, he had no speed to speak of, but that was never his game anyway. As a 4-5 guy and PP quarterback, having him around for another year or 2 would have been fine. Such a solid guy and an underrated leader.

Markov had so much hockey IQ, that it offset his average speed and size. His body positioning, stick work, angles, first passes and cross-seam PP passes were sublime. But for me, his most impressive trait was making Komisarek look like a top four defender. Pure sorcery that! đ
On the âinjury frontâ, both Dauphin and Hoffman added to the COVID list. RHP might still make his NHL debut yet when the games return.

I shake my head every time I hear that "we need a partner for Weber". Shea has a lot of good attributes, but improving his partner was not one of them. We never had to worry about who got partnered up with Subban or Markov. Hell, if Andrei could make Komisaurus look as good as he did, he was truly amazing. But it seemed every guy who went on his right side looked better. Wonder why.
Yup, Berg had something against Russians that summer.

A couple of things:
So now Price is out because because of his surgery. Didn't he have that done last summer? Like July or August? I wonder what he had done. I though the only knee surgery that would keep you out around 6 months was an ACL problem.
And what is going on with Edmunston? I know there was personal leave but what was the original injury and how was it treated?
There are still some mysteries around the team.

I thought I heard the physical side of what derailed Edmundson this season was back related.
Regarding Price, who knows really. Yeah, it seems like this many months after his surgery that it would suggest an ACL. But given the other stuff Price was dealing with, it could be that the serious physical rehab took a backseat to the other stuff.
I imagine that management is going to ascertain what a healthy Price wants to do with the remaining years in his standout career. However, it would be incredibly complicated to satisfy his desire to move on if that is what he prefers. For starters, he has full control and it is like he would agree to go just anywhere. Second, unless a club is buying the prime years of the world's best (Vasilevskiy), no one in today's NHL wants to allocate more than $6 million AAV for a goalie. And thus the conundrum will become why would Montreal want to chew on $4 or $5 million retained through 2026? It just does not make any sense for Montreal because by the time the Habs pay their starter and their backup, plus the $5 million per on the books for the departed Price, there is simply not much cap savings.

Gally and Byron close to returning with non-contact jerseys today. Because Habs fans canât get nice things this season, we get to add Drouin and Dvorak to the injured list for a bit.
