I never got past the image of him being Tiny Tim on skates. The minute he got a split nail it was yelping back to mommy for that life threatening injury.... Worthless puke.... Drouin is on injury reserve for an ankle sprain. He didn't injure his ankle but was in close contact with a player who did.

So let's see if I got this right. Successful Knee Surgery in July, expected return in September Left unprotected, and all will be explained Depression in October, 30 days in EAP Comes back in November, we are told it will take time for him to get his head cleared January we learn his surgery suddenly wasn't a success Starts skating around team in February March has "virus" Yeah , right .... as the church lady says ... "HOW COVENIENT!" I don't want Carey back, this team is playing lights out and if a healthy motivated Price comes back, we can kiss away a top 5 pick. Allen and Monty have played well, but playoff Carey is not what we need right now. If we want to finish last, then the best way to do that is to play Carey Price. He hasn't played a game in about a year. And I personally, think he is done. He'll never play another playoff game as a Hab. There, I said it.

One should never interrupt a man gone fishing. Although I hear using $100 bills for lures is not very successful even if you have 10.5 million of them.
If there is no solution to the "will he or wont he" by FA times, we're going into another miserable season....which I can't stand.

Yeah, I would be surprised if Price has much left in the tank and frankly the last time he was really good in a regular season is not exactly recent history.
It feels like everything is totally up in the air. I suppose he comes back next year but on some level logic says his knee issues are chronic. In other words, the next injury is inevitable and the recovery, if possible at all, will be even slower.

Carey is clearly fragile both mentally and physically. It seems like the club is protecting him on both fronts, as his media availability is almost non-existent and his slow progress with respect to practice seems most unusual.
The bigger problem, regardless if he overcomes his mental and physical issues, is that it would seem unwise to rely on him going forward, as another significant injury would seem inevitable.

How do you manage a cap with 10.5M in a Damocles' sword over your head ? Habs will have to keep a guy like Allen around, even if they wanted to develop Primeau or Montembeault, the assumption has to be that our starter can no longer actually start even half a season. I wonder when buyout becomes an option, if he won't retire.

One can only hope that pride takes over and the player recognizes he had a great run and has a strong reputation, and it is better go out on top than with an embarrassing demise. Pride may be easier to handle when one can retire a multi-millionaire. Or he could follow the Weber LTIR route. Bottom line: if Carey's not good to go next season and play well, then it is time to move on for both Carey and Le Club.

I checked the buyout option in cap friendly and his contract is buyout proof since his salary is mostly bonuses. Thank MB for that one. Hopefully next year he comes back 100% and we can find a trade partner that thinks he is the missing link. Toronto? Edmonton? Ottawa?

He was available for free to Seattle or whoever they could trade him to and no bites. The only remote possibility is trading him to Los Angeles on the advice to the GM of Bergevin. IT is time to make a difficult decision but our war hero is no longer remotely what he once was. The injury list is ridiculous on this club. It's not just bad luck. It's endemic. Changes must be made. Cap saving is a joke.

Since NHL contracts are guaranteed, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that maybe Price has hinted to the Club (or told them outright) that he has no desire to play anymore and let him collect a cheque for 2022 and 2023, then he’ll officially retire. Carey gets to build up his retirement nest egg, and the Club gets a chance at Wright and Bedard with no further degradation of #31’s stats

IIRC? He would have to retire this year??

Over 35 contracts only apply if you sign them when you are over 35 For instance, A 36 yr old signs a contact for 4 million per year and retires when he is 37 Under the MOU signed in 2020, the above contract will not count towards the cap if the player retires, as long as the salary and cap hit are the same. If this contract has signing bonuses that reduces the actual salary, then it will count towards the cap upon retirement

Since his salary next year is almost 3 mill less than his cap hit, if he can come back somewhat he might be movable, with Salary retention, but the hope is he retires since at the end of this year he'll be over 103 mill US in earnings.

It would take a lot to move him but if he can get back to 80% of his prime a bunch of teams would be interested, Oilers, Avs, Knights If the panthers get bounced in the first round how about we send them Carey for Spencer Knight

Jeje, Florida has their own dreadful anchor contract in net (Bobrovsky).
Price has been out of action so long, I am not sure a couple of games would assuage the doubts potentially interested teams may have about his health. The possibility of trade, assuming Price wants one, may have to wait until next December or January.

Those knees man, those knees. Or was it those hips? Several months will be needed as proof of durability and even then, a discount will be demanded.

That is two wrist surgeries for a 27 year old who was never a prolific NHL goal scorer to begin with. I wish Drouin the best, but I see his career trajectory moving in the inevitable direction of modest, one-year "show me" contracts.

I guess it's good that Allen is gone for the season. And you know the injury situation is bad when a guy that isn't even playing with the team is on the list.

Here's the latest from "man-games lost". Even if we ignore Weber's 73 games we're pretty far out in front.

I wonder how the Kings could look at Bergevin's body of work and hire the guy. It's all about who you know, not what you know. Robitaille. Meh. Berg did build a team that made the Finals, he does well in his trades, he did sign some great deals - Price (previous contract) and Pacioretty's 6 year deal, for example. He was just too much of a one-man show so ultimately some details didn't get the attention they deserved, and too much personal judgment came into play. I do think he could be of great use as part of a more structured organization with someone who'd have pushback from analytics to show when Berg was going too far off the reservation.

Whatever one thinks of him from the past, I would never hire him for any organization I led. He is too narcissistic and the complete opposite of a team player. Over his 20 year career, he averaged about 62 games a season. His playoff average is 4 games. His teams missed the playoffs 12 of those 20 years and it would have been 13 if he wasn't traded from a non playoff team (the Pens) to a playoff team (the Canucks) late in his last season. He never won the Stanley Cup. This is not the picture of a winner and there's probably a reason for that besides luck.
