Nice GDT, Dis. For these two organizations, the focus on the youth makes a lot of sense.
Ottawa is not exactly playing great hockey, but the confidence seems to building lately. I am sure they do not like the fact that Montreal won both against them this season.
I am not sure the game will be free flowing and wide open, but I do foresee guys finishing their checks and bringing more intensity than one might normally expect in a Tuesday night encounter in April between two bottom feeders. If Pezzetta is healthy, I would reinsert him into the lineup.

This team could have the making of a contender. I'm making some assumptions here, but Norris and Stutzle (if he can play centre) are a decent 1-2 punch up the middle and they have Chabot and (very probably) Sanderson as two studs on D. All you have to do is fill in the support roles, but can they do that, given their financial situation?
Ottawa had a sprinkling of luck mixed in with their deals. They made a real haul on the Karlsson trade, but who expected one of San Jose's first round picks turning into Tim Stutzle? No doubt Doug Wilson thought he was giving up Ridley Greig or Brendan Brisson and not Stutzle. Or Josh Norris, a 19th overall pick becoming a 30 goal scorer at 22 years of age?

Caufield's goal is his 35th point on the year, which ties him with Mike Keane, Stephan Lebeau, and Doug Jarvis for 36th on the Habs all time rookie scoring list

Not sure why StL would pull the goalie with 4 minutes left against a team like the Sens and a goalie like Forsberg
Oh well. We needed the loss
CC and Barron's goals were worth watching

One-sided officiating aside, it was a spirited game and a fun one too until the third period.
Stutzle is earning a well-deserved reputation as a diver extraordinaire. Neither Suzuki nor Gallagher deserved penalties for their encounters with the German embellisher.
I have no idea what is wrong with Pezzetta or when he will be back, but I would have liked to see him in the lineup against a team like the Sens.
Maybe St. Louis gives Allen a day off soon. He was playing great in the first 7-10 days after his return, but not so much right now.
Without stat checking it, I would assume that Montreal and Seattle are only teams in the league without a single 20 goal scorer? If St. Louis reunites Anderson-Suzuki-Caufield, there is a chance all three could finish with 20.

Fun game to watch. Happy with our D - the rookies all had good games. Schunny had the turnover but otherwise had a good game. Barron looked like Makar on that goal. And Harris is just smart. Hughes has to pick up a solid offensive D to replace Petry and we'll be fine back there.
As for up front, this team will never amount to anything as long as Hoffman, Armia, and Dvo are on the roster. Hughes task this summer is to unload those guys with Drouin, and we can get started with building a contender. MB has saddled Hughes with some real bad contracts so Hughes must not only find good players but unload these horrible contracts. Those 4 players add up to $18 million in cap space.

Hughes has to pick up a solid offensive D to replace Petry and we'll be fine back there. Actually, I think he just needs to move Petry's contract. Our D tonight with Wideman as a 7th, would be just fine. I guess we'll have to keep someone like Clague just to have adequate depth, but really, I'd rather see Barron on the PP than Petry at this point. Yup. Hoffman is only 2 more years, and I think Dvorak contributes well enough when used properly, more of a 2-way 3d line center than a top-6 player. But Armia, dear Lord, what's to be done ? I'd hope to move him for an equally bad contract just in the hope the other guy clicks since Armia clearly isn't. Drouin will either light it up next season or be gone, and I expect he'll be gone. But with guys like Ylonen, Heinemann, Smilanec coming up and a guy like Pitlick already here, we'll have options on the wings. We just badly need another top-6 C and we'll have the key pieces in place to build around (assuming Primeau turns into a starter). And as much as we can all hate Stützle, right now I'd move just about any pick/futures to have him on our team. I've long dreamt of a 1-2 punch at center that basically means you always have 2 offensive lines, a Sakic-Forsberg or Bergeon-Kreiji combo, and Suzuki-Stützle would do that for us for a decade. I wish we'd play Montembeault in these 4 point games and play Allen against the stronger teams we can afford to win against.

Oh, and did anyone else find the lines and even more, the defense pairings hard to follow ? I saw a lot of uncommon pairs and guys playing the opposite of their usual sides. Anyone else have trouble following at times ?

Anyone else have trouble following at times ? Yup. Other than Suze's line it seems like a mash. I'd have Josh back with Suze as he's done nothing on the other lines. And the other lines could use Pitlick who can carry the puck. It's as if we have 3 3rd lines. But ultimately what we're missing is a second line centre. And why is Hoff carrying the puck on the PP. He is a one trick pony, that being his shot when it's on - which is rare. But he is not a puck carrier and we cannot enter the zone with him carrying or dropping it back as his timing is awful.

Cant wait to see Hoffman gone, he's useless It was another desperate pick up by MB last summer as he watched his team fall apart and he wanted to hold onto his job. Same with Dvo. I think many of us were saying MB should not be allowed to make any major decisions while in his last year awaiting an extension. Molson was slow off the Marc again and we will be paying for it for some time. Hopefully Hughes has a quick fix, as he has shown so far.

and I think Dvorak contributes well enough when used properly, more of a 2-way 3d line center than a top-6 player. The single attribute that has stuck out for me on Dvorak is his lack of skating speed. He tried to break away on the RW yesterday and the back checker caught him easily. Without him being a Datsyuk with the stick and the brain, that lack of speed will hurt him and the team as we get faster. There's no lack of effort, but man, it takes forever for him to get moving. I can't see him being a contributor with that weakness.

If St. Louis reunites Anderson-Suzuki-Caufield, there is a chance all three could finish with 20. Maybe they dont want to reunite them because they dont want to win and get outside top three, not putting guys together is another way of trying not to win.
