I suspect there is another thread somewhere recognizing The Flower's passing but I'm starting this one here as he is still very much a part of the current Hab family as we will see tomorrow night. He was Marty's idol and the ceremony Sunday night is going to be very emotional (ironic we're playing the Bruins who Guy showed dominated). I will be shedding a tear or two. In any event, Guy's passing should not be restricted to one thread - he was a legend like no other.
He was my all-time favourite - boyhood idol. Watching him, was like watching poetry. Guy played how the Gods believed hockey should be played when they invented the game. I remember once saying to a friend that Gretzky was great offensively and when the game was over he had racked up the points. But if one was a casual observer of the game one would not know he was The Great One. But anyone who went to watch the Habs in the late 70s, even a novice fan, would know shortly into the first period who was the best hockey player out there. Guy and the game of hockey were one.
I met him a few times. He was always kind and respectful. And Guy was straight shooter - not trying to upset anyone but just calling it as he saw it.
I will have my Lafleur jersey on this weekend!

Sportsnet Ontario is showing a shortened version of game 4 of the 76 Finals at 11:30 this morning. I'm sure there will be some great "Guy" moments to be enjoyed.

Guy's in the pantheon of NHL greats.
Glad he was "ours".
Perhaps his most famous goal.

Is there any indication when this happened? I'm assuming it was after Guy retired but wondering how recent.

Tx Dis! can't believe he was flying a helicopter so recently. Wonder if Guy waves to Kovy when they're both soaring high above the ground like they did the ice surface?

That was one heck of a ceremony. The Sinatra tribute was great. But ultimately it was the fans that stole the show. When people say The Habs are a religion, it was on full display tonight.
Wondering if, and hoping that, the Guy, Guy birds will be a chant at the Bell going forward - perhaps when Habs score on a slapper?

This one touched me more than say The Rocket or Beliveau because Guy was my first "Hockey Hero"!! He was the player that got me watching hockey, cheering for the Habs etc. I was pretty lucky to be able to remember some of the games in detail including the Cups, the Russia series, World Cup etc. When we were playing road hockey I was always either Guy or Dryden. I knew he was sick and his time was coming to an end, but you are never prepared to loose that hero that you grew up with.
RIP Guy

Seems like a lot of people are peeved Weber did not attend the ceremony. If you are the Captain, even in name only, you have to be there.
It does not appear he speaks to the Montreal media either, but he did attend Rinne's jersey retirement in Nashville.
I for one am not very happy with him about this, he should have been there and wearing the jersey. Is he pissed that burgerbrain and his cohorts got the boot?
Glad to see the back of him

Of course, Weber will be elected to the Hall as a Predator. He spent 8 full seasons with Rinne. Only natural he'd attend his buddy's jersey retirement.
But....as the current captain of the Habs...missing Guy's ceremony was a faux pas. He'll likely attend upcoming Lafleur memorials.

Glad to see the back of him I am pretty sure the Habs and his agent have told him to stay away from Montréal so he doesn't have to talk about his situation; retirement, injury, or whatever it is that could possibly affect his status for cap and insurance purposes. It was a good a good discussion on the French radio tuesday night and the guy explained it a lot better than me.
