Petry hadn't scored in 19 games and he gets 2 tonight. Where was that in October or November?
It comes down to Friday. Nashville may have clinched by then and I think I heard that Soros wont play until the playoffs.
As for Florida, well maybe Huberdeau will still be close to McDavid in the scoring race. They cant bench everyone can they?

I think this might have been Petry's last "screw you guys" as he goes out the door

If Petry had played this well earlier in the season, maybe they could have found a taker. Now he shows up when it's too late.

Yeah, big picture, this was certainly not a helpful result. But the boys and the coaches had to have been suffering mightily through nine consecutive regulation losses, so part of me is happy for them.
In reality I thought the boys got outplayed, albeit slightly, by a New York lineup that did not include Shesterkin, Fox, Trouba, Panarin, Kreider, Zibanijad, and Copp. In other words, the Rangers clear best six players, plus another strong one, were not on the ice. For this reason, it would have been more inexplicable had the Habs not won the game.
Florida and their quest for first overall in the league is an interesting subplot. Should they care about it? History says they should not. However, since the Panthers have a back to back (Ottawa and Montreal) to end the season, which game are they going to ice their best lineup? Given how coaches obsess about having rhythm and not too many days off before the playoffs start, I would kind of imagine that Montreal will see Bobrovsky and the Panthers top guns whereas Ottawa will likely see Knight and perhaps a less loaded lineup. Time will say. Given how sketchy Montembeault looked tonight in New York, Montreal could easily lose to any amalgamation of Panthers on the ice Friday.

Like others I was in disbelief that Petry starts picking corners after the year he's had I was thinking he didn't get the memo. But then I realized he stopped reading the memo months ago.He must be so proud to be a star against an AHL Rags team.
I was pissed especially as I saw Yotes were trailing Stars 3-0 and figured Fla, like Rags, would not dress their stars Friday. But after game I checked scoreboard and saw Yotes came back too win. WTF. I let out a major scream of joy. Yes, it's come to this. Tx MB. Hopefully a first overall stud pick will help us forget about you.

We guaranteed the best odds for Wright/Cooley/(surprise other) and Petry has shown all the other GM's that he is still a guy they should go after. Win/Win.

Petry has been a bit of a contrarian all season. For the first half, he was Pouty Petry who openly sulked and bad mouthed the coaching (fair game, but not what you expect from a veteran “leader”). All while playing probably the worst hockey of his career while the Habs were still trying to build off the momentum of their Cinderella playoff run.
Then he suddenly enjoys coming to the rink again when the season is mathematically shot. That was good as hopefully he showed some wary GMs and scouts that he is still more of the old Petry and less of the Pouty Petry who was atrocious.
Now with draft lottery odds on the line, he decided to have his game of the season. And even funnier, Engels who must be starved for any good news story to write about this season, tosses out a Petry love-fest article based on Jeff’s good game.
I will miss the good years and good games that Petry gave the Habs over his tenure. He seemed to step his game up even more when Weber was out, except during this mess of a season where he seemed to clock out mentally. In the end, he kinda made his own bed with his sulking routine, horrible hockey, and his request for a trade. Pretty hard for HuGo to do anything but move him for the best deal they can get.
