Are you feeling lucky? "Well, do ya punk?"
Reading about the top prospects (Wright, Coolley, Slafkovski), picking 1st, 2nd or 3rd may not be that big a deal. But I trust Gorts and Hughes to know the field and pick the best of the bunch so I want #1 pick. Of course their #1 choice may still be available if they pick 3rd.
Thankfully it's not MB at the table. He'd probably go off the chart and pick another KK who has 0 points in 4 playoff game while averaging 10 minutes a game. Anyone up for trolling Canes?

If the Habs get 1st overall, I wonder if they are interested in moving it? Is there any teams desperate for Wright etc?

Not sure what to wish for. There's the luck of the lottery balls, but more importantly there's luck in how these players pan out. How often is it the case that the consensus top picks don't end up being the best players in the draft? This seems like it could be that kind of year.

Is this worse than Pumkin patch day (FA period)? I'd like to see us pick 1st once in my lifetime. In fact I would be happy to suck another year for two top picks and do a proper rebuild which MB never had the stones to do. I have this feeling though that we are going to pick 2nd.

I'd love to have the first pick simply in order to have the ability to trade down if someone has a player in mind they are really hot on.
NWT, what are your thoughts on the top guys? Wright, Nemec, Jiricek, Cooley, Slafkovsky. Who should the Habs take?

One guy who may not may not fall to the second Habs pick that I saw during he U18s and impressed was Rutger McGroarty. Big guy at 6, 1, 204 lbs. so I always wonder if he impressed due to his size and ability to hold off smaller players at that level. Except he showed some pretty good hands and he's got decent speed. Most mock drafts have him going earlier than 25ish, though.

I do not see the Habs trading down with the draft taking place in Montreal.
Regarding tonight, I guess we not only can say Go Habs, but also Go Blue Jackets, Go Islanders, Go Jets, Go Canucks, and Go Golden Knights since a lottery 'win' by any those clubs is not really a win because they cannot leap into the first overall position.

I have them as follows: Wright Cooley Slafkovsky/Nemec/Jiricek I think the Worlds might help separate the last three a little bit before the draft. All are top players and will be good picks. They also all fill needs of the Habs as a “bonus” too (centre, top end RHD, skilled power forward). When you can get BPA that fills a need, that is gravy.

Lots to like if he can improve his first few steps. He also was the team’s captain at the U18s.

NJD moved up. Either first or second. Fingers crossed. Need to see ARI next to stay top two.

Frickin' Devils with their usual lottery luck. Could they ever manage to put a decent product on the ice?

Now it seems obvious, for me at least, which name Hughes will call when he steps up to the podium on July 7. But is it a lock?

My nephew said Hughes didn't look too happy, I said he was being diplomatic unlike tambellini with his Saperlipopette eating grin in 2010, 11 and 12

Assuming it is, it will be interesting to see if New Jersey takes Cooley. Logically, if they think he projects as the best player then they should. But one has to wonder if already having two skilled, smallish centres locked up long-term at the top of their lineup could make Fitzgerald convince himself that it is better to go in a different direction.

Jersey need RHD. Just saying. They could potentially jumble up the top end of the draft if they sneak a bit of “need” into their pick. Slafkovsky would not hurt them either.

Lots of people are saying it was devine intervention from Guy Lafleur. Lafleur wore number 10, which happens to be May 10. He was born in 1951, which 51 is Shane Wright's number. Also ironically Guy was drafted 51 years ago and you guessed it as a no. 1 overall pick. So God decided to take one of our first overalls and, we get one back. Stuff like that.

Other stuff includes: Guy got his most famous goal against the Bruins on May 10. And when guy was drafted first overall, the draft was in Mtl.
