Translated from French by GoogleVery interesting interview with Chantal Machabee at 98.5. Which indicates that Josh Anderson wants to stay in Montreal for the whole summer to get to know and immerse himself in the city in which he plays. Respect. #CH #Onlegardesvp

Josh is a good kid, saw an interview with his parents, seem like really good people can see where he gets it from. Montreal is a great city... as long as you're not on the 40...đ

Or 28 years old at the start of a rebuild.

Or 28 years old at the start of a rebuild. This is the tricky part for HuGo. You cannot have team almost fully made up of U23 players even in a rebuild, as you need some veteran presence and leadership. Both HuGo have been very consistent in their pressers about the importance of filling that void left by guys like Weber. Anderson, when he is on and not injured, is that bit of a unicorn that lots of teams covet. But the consistency and health issues are legit. HuGo have also mentioned that they want to get bigger and faster, so a complementary piece like Anderson fits into that vision of style of play. So back to the age thing, it really depends on when they think they want this team to start being more competitive. If it is only a few seasons away, Anderson could still be a useful piece and not an asset with severely depreciated trade value. I also see a number of more obvious wingers that should and likely will be moved before Anderson. But then there is always the âoffer that cannot be refusedâ that seems to be how Hughes has handled guys he liked like Lehky and Kulak and was not actively shopping. If someone pays his price and he thinks it can improve the team down the road, then salut Josh. And finally, maybe the new skills development group of Adam and Marie-Philip can teach the big guy how to pass and use his linemates better. A guy can dream! Thatâs for you seventeen lol

Colorado is a big, fast team. It is an imitation league. Unless some GM really wants to overpay, I would imagine Anderson is staying with the Habs.
Keeping guys in their late 20s is not crazy for a rebuilding team. And oddly enough Anderson does not really have much mileage (381 NHL games).
Moreover, for a club like Montreal, literally you can never have enough guys who want to be here.

I think Anderson likes Montreal, has heard the trade talk and decided to stay in MTL over the Summer because he knows what it means to the fans and to show management how much he loves the team and the city.

Anderson does have a real risk of becoming an anchor contract if he just keeps on getting hurt more and more, and he doesn't have the hockey sense to learn to pick his spots more intelligently. So I'd be very, very open to moving him. I hate moving guys who love the city, too, but we need high-end assets for the future, as well. This is a rebuild, after all.

Thatâs for you seventeen lol Thanks for yanking my chain, NWT. What is easy to forget is that competitiveness and being a true contender often takes several years after you have drafted elite players. Much longer than we'd like to think. Let's take some examples. How old were these guys and how long after being drafted before they won the Cup? Tampa - Hedman, drafted 2009, won Cup in 2020 at age 29 Stamkos - drafted 2008, won Cup at age 30 Kucherov - drafted 2011, won Cup at age 27. Youngest key player on Tampa is Brayden Point - drafted 2014, Won cup at age 24. Vasilevsky was drafted in 2012. Won Cup at age 25 Blues - O'Rielly Age 28, Pietrangelo, Age 29 I could go on (how old was Ovechkin? - 32) So let's say your key guys are, optimistically, going to be 24-27 at Cup time. That means at least 6 years from now since any of our kids won't be that age until then. How old will Anderson be by that time? I'll answer that for you...34. I'm not a fan of Josh for a several reasons and here they are: Not a good hockey IQ. Doesn't maximize either offensive or defensive situations. I sometimes wonder if he loves forechecking so much so that he can be absolved from backchecking. Lehkonen for example, manages to do both by positioning himself much better and avoiding the spectacular but mostly ineffective loud bodychecks. He doesn't produce...averaging 36 points for a full season is not my idea of value, especially when they're not bringing much else to the table. Add to that the fact he often doesn't play a full season. One can point to his goals, but that accentuates that his assist totals are low and why is that? His contract price and length is too high and long. If I take those those factors into consideration and stir it in with his perceived high value by others and his age, it's a no brainer to trade him. St. Louis has stated he feels Hockey IQ can be improved. I disagree. Maybe if the guy is smart to begin with, one can change his approach or attitude to his game. But if they are not smart to begin with and have basically gotten to this point on their athletic, brawny skills, nah.

Torts is the new HC in Philly and he LOVES Josh. Torts also is not there for a rebuild, he is there to win now.
Philly owns the 5th overall.
Vancouver has a lot of pieces to sell, but... there's Josh who again, Torts lovvvvvvvves.
So in my fantasy world, I see Torts demanding Philly make an offer. I see that offer as something like either the 5th overall straight up for Josh, or Josh plus our 2nd first for their 5th and a prospect that fits the HuGo template, let's say Elliott Desnoyers.
Do you do this deal? I do. Then I take that 5th and I try to trade up to grab Nemec, Slaf or Cooley, whoever we can get.

I'd love to get the 5th, but let's keep in mind, this is a mediocre draft by most accounts, so overcommitting to it might not work out. We might well be here in 5 years arguing about how we could have missed with both #1 and #5 and not have gotten an impact player, when there were 3 in the top 15. I'd rather try and pry a kid out of another team, or even get a pick next year, so spread out marbles around, so to speak. The only upside to #5 this season is that we know who is available, and can proceed on the draft floor, or not, depending on that. With the draft in Montreal, that would be a bit of a shocker.
