Those who haven't, should check out capfriendly. We need to deal some players to Anaheim or Arizona. In fact, the whole league is in cap hell. I actually like the way Nashville has there team set up. Star players at around 8 million, the rest at or below the 2's. except #2 and 3 defenceman at 6.
The only teams that will have money after their RFA's are signed are NJ, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, Ottawa, Winnipeg (depending on Dubois salary) , Buffalo, Arizona and Anaheim.

This probably isn't a popular opinion, but at this point in time, I'd pass on PLD ... I know he wants to play in Montreal, and that he's a homegrown player (Rimouski), and that's great; however, I have a few red flags going up with bringing him in ... he had a well-documented feud with Torts, he dogged his play until he was traded, and now he's dictating to Winnipeg where he wants to be traded to ... that's just me, guys ... I know he's talented, and you can't teach that, but I've got a few red flags with this guy ... Cheers. That's where I am too. How long will it be before he bails on the Habs like he bailed on CBJ and Winnipeg?

It's not like he's a veteran who's put in his time and is ready to go home. Honor your contract and commitment. I don't think he has the mental fortitude to withstand what would be a high profile standing on the Habs. Give Dach a chance and if it doesn't work out, we can revisit in 2 years

I'm just not convinced he'd be the right guy to bring in with such a young dressing room ... as it is now, those young players are getting most of the attention and that's where it should be ... bringing PLD would be a major PR win, that would see the majority of attention shift onto him (understandably so) ... would I revisit that in two years ... yes, no problem and just based on his desire to play in Montreal, he'd probably be a lock ... but for the time being let these young guys steal the show ... Cheers.

Winnipeg could lose a few more players if things don't improve, and if that happens, Cheveldayoff could be history ... Cheers.

Wheeler likely on his way out too . . . the Jets will soon be in the same position as the Habs are now, looking to the future.

If Mark Scheifele walks, they're in real trouble ... his contract expires when Blake Wheeler's does ... never pictured Ryan Poehling in Pittsburgh, but he's looking forward to the change in scenery ... can't believe how quickly he dropped in the prospect pool ... I think he'll do fine in Pittsburgh ... I'm happy not reading about Jeff Petry wanting out of Montreal any more ... he developed a lot during his time in Montreal, and he was arguably our best d-man for a lot of his tenure ... now he's gone, but with his family again ... thanks for the 8 years he put into Montreal ... like Poehling, he should do well in Pittsburgh ... Cheers.

I think the Petry situation is different from Calgary problem. Petry was still under contract to Montreal. They could have played hardball with him but chose to meet his demands. But his situation was driven by his wife. If she was content to stay in Canada, I believe that he would have been OK to stay.
I dont understand Gaudreau's decision. If he wanted to be close to home why did he choose a city over 800km away from Jersey? He'll never win anything in Columbus other then a series or two.

Wheeler likely on his way out too . . . the Jets will soon be in the same position as the Habs are now, looking to the future. Wheeler's shelf life is expiring anyway. The leadership core in Winnipeg is Wheeler and Schieffele and it hasn't worked out so well (eg, Schieffele's hit on Evans). I think a good shake-up is needed. Wheeler's shelf life is expiring anyway, but Schieffele should still be able to get the Jets something on the market. They really need to get a good return for Dubois (and not from Montreal because Hughes has too much leverage there). Even then, Chevy's trading a 2 year rental, unless some GM thinks they can change PLD's attitude. You know, if Dach works out and is a solid #2 C, I don't see any reason to chase Dubois. I'm always going back and forth between the power teams have over players and then the loyalty aspect of players when they become UFA's and I typically end up with no answer. Something bothers me about PLD's actions, though. To win a Cup you have to get huge sacrifices from players. I wonder how much PLD is willing to sacrifice. That's where the ''character' that HuGo talk about becomes critical. Does anyone have a character meter?

Someone on Twitter (caveat emptor) proposed that the two jurisdictions proposed (Pennsylvania and New Jersey) are both Democratic states, while Ohio is a REpublican state (governor wise, I believe, though I haven't checked) and that Ohio would react differently during any further pandemics (screw the minions! Full speed ahead!) played into the decision. No idea, just throwing it out there as a possibility. If you think that's far fetched, just consider the Petry matter.

Pennsylvania has a Democratic governor but there is an election coming in November and the Republican nominee is a full on election denier so who knows. NJ has a Democratic governor. If Gaudreau chose CBJ for that reason than that just confirms it for me - he doesn't care about winning.

He might care about winning, but not to the extent where he is kept apart from his family because of health rules. I can understand that, but not the reluctance to get vaccinated. That's just a foolish risk decision and makes me question his critical thinking skills and his judgment. I wouldn't want him on my team either unless it was for $2-3MM a season.
