It is easy enough to trade Dubois. I am sure Chevaldayoff has many offers. The return will not be enormous, however, unless the player is willing to sign long-term for the team acquiring him.
I continue to see the timing of acquiring him now while the Habs are bad in net and terrible on the blueline as less than ideal. And what was the point is wasting a high pick (#13) on Dach if he is nothing more than a third liner? Or does Hughes know the Jets covet Dach?

How about we clear up as much cap space the next two years and get Huberdeau and Dubois? Never would of thought hub would leave Florida....

Not sure it's that easy to trade Dubs. in fact there is only one destination. I would be shocked if dubs ends anywhere other than Mtl. Chevy is not getting much from another team as an RFA with one year left, and Dubs is not signing with another team unless they're willing to pay way more than Mtl- even then. Can't see a team doing that. Only destination for Dubs at this point is Mtl. So Chevy is boxed in and he should grab what he can now from Mtl. The longer this saga goes on the worse for Jets. And I'm ok with that as I don't want Dubs this season.

How about we clear up as much cap space the next two years and get Huberdeau and Dubois? Never would of thought hub would leave Florida.... Chances of Hubs enjoying Calgary and being fully committed to the team and city is unlikely, so he is likely to be a UFA next summer. Does he pull a Dub and want to come home? Perhaps. For all the Yanks wanting to go home because of Canadian culture and Covid restrictions (Petry, Gaudreau, Tchuk), I suspect there are many Canadian boys who find the Yank's culture with guns, Trump and polarizing social issues hard to handle. Throw in the Quebecois angle and the fact Habs are poised to have a great team in the next few years, we may very well be at the top of Hubs' list. Drouin will be off the books and with Dubs and Hubs, we won't need his Quebecois allure which is why MB gave up Sergachev. So we can use his $5.5 and top it up another $3 or so. Now who wouldn't be happy with that trade off: Drouin for Hubs. And might even be able to get something for Drouin at trade deadline, although not much. Still need to dump Hoff, Dvo, and would gladly give up Gally or Josh if it means clearing the cap space for Hubs and Dubs. Hubs + Dubs = Habs Cups

Hubs and Dubs....sounds like a drink i can get addicted to.
Our diaper defense needs to grow up overnight. In theory, the front end can give us a 3 goal cushion...and struggle to win without a decent defense.

While we got hometown boys Savard and Mathesen for our D and, given the trend, it can only be matter of time before Chabot demands Sens trade him to Mtl.

Huberdeau is a fantastic offensive talent. However, I am not keen on tabling long-term contracts to thirty year old forwards.
Dubois is five years younger, so inking him long-term is a different calculus altogether.

He'll be at the age where he considers himself in his prime, but really can't be seen as such by a GM since the dropoff might be rapid.

There are always outliers (Jagr, Iginla, Patrik Elias, Modano) who play at a high level until or beyond their mid-30s, however that is certainly the exception to the rule for forwards. Sometimes injuries pile up and/or simply lose a step, but most forwards begin to slide down the hill by age 32-33.
Smart GMs get ahead of the curve on drafting and development, offer rich deals to the right RFAs, and only selectively (i.e. keep term way down) use own-UFAs or outside-UFAs to bolster the roster.

And the sage continues: www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/not-as-easy-as-yes-or-no-dubois-leaves-his-future-in-winnipeg-open-to-interpretation/I'm guessing and hoping PLD comments reflect his realization he needs to walk back his position of wanting to go to Mtl so he doesn't get booed off the ice at his home games in The Peg. Then again, he may just be an unpredictable, fickle, entitled athlete who believes he can change his mind every few weeks or months regardless of what contract he may have signed. If it's the latter then I have serious concerns for him in a has jersey.

Just as well given what Hubs was looking for. Can't believe Flames signed him for that much $$ and term Trevs was obviously desperate after being played by Jonny and Tachuk. This was a gm who knew he had to save his job as Flames were in free fall. So they got Hubs to help the next few seasons and keep Trevs his job. But then it will get real ugly when Hubs starts slow down and Flames have his cap hit,. But it won't be Trevs problem at that point. Sound familiar: Carey, Carey, Carey.

Hubs got a fat contract that wont age well. At my 8x8, given his age, it accounts for the back end, but at 10.5, it's high now and obscene in five years.
I DO NOT CARE.

Dom Duchysim (spelling way off, I know) had a recent article on The Athletic pointing out that the worst contracts are signed when a GM has made a trade for a good player, often a very good player, whose contract has one year or so left on it. They are caught in that vise that they gave up a great asset (Tkachuk) for two really good players, but now you have to keep them and that means long term, big money. It gets extremely dangerous when that player is in their prime (late 20's, early 30's). That's Huburdeau to a T, and Weegar as well. GM's know this, but what do you do? If you don't extend them, the deal looks like crap. Personally I'd have extended Weegar first. A puck moving D is more important these days, and he's 28 so a long term wouldn't hurt as much. Or pay the guy more, but for a shorter term.

My error. It was Sean McIndoe (Down goes Brown) who wrote the article.
