I see Price as a HOF goalie, though his case is not an automatic two ft. putt type thing. There are guys with Price-territory numbers who are not in the HOF. But excellence needs to be judged not only in longevity marathon standards yet also in terms of the attainment of an elite level. In other words, who were you at the height of your career? Dave Poulin was making this point the other day. He said Price was the best during the pinnacle of his career, which is different than a guy just being top ten at his position for a decade or so. Regarding Halak, I concur with habsorbed. Halak has had a very good and very long NHL career, but he is not going to get any HOF consideration because essentially he was almost never a stand-alone starter. In 17 seasons, Halak only eclipsed the 50 game mark three times. As for Quick, I think his body of work is HOF worthy.

Price was elite for one season definitely. And there is an argument to be made for two other seasons. But they aren’t consecutive seasons by no means.
He was top three in Vezina only in two years of his career. I’m not sure I’d call that sustained elite play
Nothing differentiates his play from other goalies of his era.
