Obviously we need X to test some leafy jaws to see if they are made of glass.
Start with permanantly wiping the grin off Matthews....
(Yes, i like my meat medium rare and wear polyester lion cloth)

I came for the hockey...and stayed for the fights.
For the first time, gonna have 85" of X. He's the only one I'm interested in and want to see him in action.
Then there is this guy called Slaf?
Going to be interesting fist game of the season...

hey're giving Mesar and Beck serious looks, though I doubt either starts in Montreal. Beck will be sent back to Juniour and Mesar has 2 possible destinations, Kitchener or Laval. If we were a more contending team, I could actually see Beck staying because he plays a pro game, he has adequate size and he could be supported by a better group of players. We aren't contending for another couple of years yet, so it makes more sense to send him back and work out our centre situation this year. Monahan, Dvorak, Dach, Evans, for 3 spots. Adding Beck to that, along with the possibility of Mesar eventually, would complicate matters excessively. I really like how our centre position is setting up though, for our contending years. Suzuki and then a trio of Dach (if he works out), Mesar (who has surprised people) and Beck. Mesar wasn't originally considered as a centre, but impressed in a rookie camp with his zone exits. I've been reading more articles expounding on Mesar's lack of size likely preventing him from a career as a centre and I have to roll my eyes. When did this maxim that centres have to be big start? Thank god Henri Richard and Dave Keon aren't trying out today. I've always thought smaller, great skating centres and hulking wingers were the ideal set-up. Now, according to the pundits, it's the reverse. Huh? If Mesar can score, position himself properly in the defensive zone and drive play (something he's really good at), why should he not be a centre? Isn't it great, knowing that in a year or two, we're going to have an elite face-off guy on the team? The last guy that fit that description was Yanic Perreault back in 2004. I'm loving that kid, Beck. It is indeed a young line-up tonight. That's fine with me. Let's test the kids. That 4th line is icky, though. None of them have a hope in hell of making the NHL for other than a cup of coffee. I wish the NHL head office would make teams dress more actual players rather than just warm bodies.

Going to be interesting fist game of the season... I expect The Tree (Arber, get it?) to continue his solid play. I also hope Slaf looks a little better. He has a rep for constantly improving, so it would be nice to see some improvement (even if just slight) over his last game. That would show he's on track.

An x/harris pairing will be a staple of our blueline for the next decade methinks

I hope to see X and Harris show up as the first pairing. That would be HUGE.
Stephans? A 25 year journeyman center?
Imagine getting Bedard and Dubois? We will have so many centers, it will change earths gravitational pull...

Going to be interesting fist game of the season... You might be in luck. Keefe stopped the Leafs practice yesterday to yell at them to be more physical, before bag skating them. Stands to reason that the Leafs will come out playing physical and X will have plenty of opportunity to reciprocate.

Robertson was gifted a ton of space as he skated in, but man the goalie cannot give up total softy like that. Montembeault needs to get his act together or it may be him (rather than Primeau) between the pipes in Laval.
Compared to the game against NJ, thus far Montreal is having trouble transitioning the puck.

One play I really enjoyed. Leafs forechecked and puck went yo one of our D (Harris?) who starts skating up the ice and a Keaf accelerates to catch him on the back check and our guy pulls away. That rarely happened before.

On Sportsnet they showed a clip of Mesar Cutting through the middle and ‘being fortunate’ a big lug Leaf Dman ‘eased up’ and didn’t destroy Mesar. Hmmm. Looked to me like the guy had him lined up and Mesar juked and the clod missed him. It’s still a risky move and non clod Dmen may not miss.

Heard some positive commentary on Owen Beck earlier today in that, it shouldn't surprise if he's actually on the team next year ...
Cheers.

Frick, Armia with a golden opportunity in the lower slot, instead of roofing it on his forehand he gets cute and goes to the backhand muffin.

I recall listening to Pitlick during an interview last season saying that he feels more comfortable on the wing. I can see why. He is not good at centre.

'72 Summit portion of 1st intermission...big lobby for Henderson's HoF induction on the basis of that series. The winning goal in Games 6, 7, and 8.
Henderson's induction has been bandied about for years.
I wouldn't have a problem with it--although Clarke hobbling Kharlamov in Game 6 still taints the outcome for me. I know some Soviet players dished out their fair share of dirt...the officiating was partisan...and the Canadians were deliberately disturbed in their Moscow hotel rooms.
But Kharlamov was arguably the most dangerous player on the ice. Fergie put out the call, Clarke delivered.
That series has been referred to many times as a "war". Considering the politics of the day, and that it was on ice...a true cold war it was.
