All those guys look like they’re 30 years old. I don’t recognize ant of them (from pictures). Cranky, didn't you go to school with some of those guys?

Still some AHLers and bubble guys hanging around, but a better lineup tonight. Of note, Monahan makes his debut in the jersey.

They are looking at 4F 1D for both PP units tonight.

That first and second line looks like those will be the set lines starting the season. Top line will be Caulfield and Suzuki. Could Dach be joining them? I think Slafkovsky needs to go to the AHL if he is just average tonight.
That leaves Pezetta, Armia, Evans and Pitlick for 4th line.

I recognize only Bobby Rousseau (bottom row, far left), Ralph Backstrom (C), J.C. Tremblay (middle row, 2nd from right). Sam Pollock and 25-year-old Scotty Bowman. EDIT: Claude Ruel is listed as a roster member. That was the season during which he suffered his eye injury--deflected puck. Hospitalized for 3 months. Playing days were over.

I thought the captain looked like Ralph Backstrom. Thanks on the others.
Bowman and Pollock are easy to spot, but I never seem to look at suits, just players.

Good grief, penalty in the first minute. And the league's best power play never leaves the zone once before the precision strike.

Ya but they took advantage of some very raw talent out there.

Leafs have their B or B+ lineup and we’re icing our C lineup IMO, maybe even C-.

Well, the Leafs have the big guns in there tonight. So that promises to be painful. However, I am not so sure this is the Habs' C lineup. Sure, Suzuki and Caufield are not playing. And Savard is not playing. But St. Louis has a lot of veteran NHL forwards on the ice and Jake Allen in net.

Picking up where he left off last year.

I know Dadonov is skilled but my goodness how can he butcher the easy pass to send in his mate on a breakaway? His two preseason games thus far are not inspiring confidence.
I continue to think a "big name" veteran Habs forward will be placed on waivers on the eve of the regular season.

The veteran forwards are letting them down. Drouin & Gallagher screw up that breakaway chance. Then Dadanov has a chance to put Dvorak in the clear & cant complete a short pass.
I agree about the your waiver prediction but who would take those guys?

And Savard is not playing. But St. Louis has a lot of veteran NHL forwards on the ice and Jake Allen in net. There’s a lot of truth to that. Without a few injuries or lineup choices, we’d add our best offenders, Suzuki and Caufield and 2 of our best defenders, Evans and Armia, and 2 support guys in Harris and Savard. We’d still lose handily, but we wouldn’t look as bad.

I agree about the your waiver prediction but who would take those guys? Well, unfortunately, no one will claim any of those guys. But the issue comes down to the cap likely preventing the Habs from running a full 23 man roster. And dumping a vet down there saves $1.125 million so it may be an unhappy/awkward thing that just has to happen. Remember, because of bonus overages last season, Montreal's cap ceiling this season is in reality only $81.2 million rather than $82.5

I agree about the your waiver prediction but who would take those guys? Who cares? They're not letting anyone down. They're just starting to play and working the kinks out. That's what preseason is all about. It's been rookie heavy thus far and now they're progressing to the transition towards the people that will actually be in Montreal.

Monahan looks pretty good. And no complaints with his skating so far.
Barron is giving me Patrick Traverse vibes unfortunately. I think he could use more AHL time.

Just a general comment on preseason games. Looking at the Columbus roster tonight, the definition of an NHL Player must be “dreamt of one day making it to the Show”.

Geez, Dadonov is really fighting it out there. Wasn't he supposed to be a skill guy?
If there's going to be a veteran winger going on waivers, its going to be him. Hoffman is actually wearing an A tonight,

I can think of another word that is applicable. My greatest concern is that the bar for expectations is too low.

We've already been told to expect a few lean years, and I couldn't care less if they win a preseason game or not ... they're building a contender in Laval and, hopefully, that will eventually equate to a contender in Montreal ... we're watching a lot of the team's future core getting looks, making mistakes, and developing ... I've never seen a rebuild from the ground, up, in Montreal, like ... ever ... so, this is new territory for a lot of us (and the franchise?) and I'm all in for the ride ... Cheers.

Yes, I am taking a of a season game too seriously but what I was commenting on was the mistakes made by veterans. It didn't bother me that the Leafs stars took advantage of 2 rookies for their first goal. But it does bug me to see experienced guys making mistakes. I know it's early but the vets have to show the rookies how its done.
