Canadian boy who went the NCAA hockey route. Kovacevic is a big righty with above average mobility. He is 25 years old, so optimistically one hopes he is a late bloomer. He has already played three seasons in the AHL, so the kid must see this opportunity with Montreal as a now or never moment to prove himself as an NHL d-man.
I would not expect too much, but I certainly do not mind this. I am okay with most of the organization's young d-men prospects playing in Laval this season.

He was very good in the AHL and was poised to at least compete for a spot. Low risk move and gives Barron more time to mature as he has not exactly cemented his spot with his preseason play. Size and mobility fits with the guys the new crew seem to like too.

Posted in out of town, but wouldn't mind putting a claim on Valimaki.

I like this move... let the kids grow... Yup. Having 2 dman rookies in the line-up is one two many, and I suspect we may have nights where we have 3 or 4 in the line-up with injuries. Kids can learn from vets but not by playing with other raw rookies. Not that I see them learning much from Wideman and Savard.

Jets message board not devastated over losing Kovacevic, but are sorry to see him claimed. One guy thought he could replace Logan Stanley at a cheaper price, but that's probably wishful thinking. A decent waiver pick-up in other words.

Tank Commander Wideman seems to have a pleasant personality, so there's that.

According to dobber prospects he's 6'5" and 218 lbs I've also seen 6'4'' 208 lbs. In either case that's insufficient weight if he's looking to be a physical force. And if he can't crack the Jets lineup, he will be nothing but a filler for us until some of the kids mature.

I agree but if he can bring a bit of jam and some offence I'm fine with that until our kids develop enough to surpass him.
