Anderson doesn’t get a lot of love on these boards, but the dude certainly is clutch. Sure, he doesn’t have the brains or the hands to drive offense, but if he did, he would cost us $8m per year. It's hard to appreciate an 82 game, 36 point guy who costs you $5.5MM a year. If we were paying him $2.5, I'd have no problem (ok, I'm lying. I don't like stupid hockey players at any price, but at least it would be $3MM less pressure on the CAP). He was pathetic last night (IMO). Too often, the play dies on his stick. Just count'em. He has a good shot, got an opportunity to use it and scored (after a bad give-away by Muzzin). Reminded me of the goal vs Vegas last year. Gift from Fleury, he scores on an empty net and he's a hero. Trade him ASAP while his value is still high. He doesn't add to team success. Well I don’t really disagree with you. He doesn’t bring much but what he does bring is rare and hard to acquire. My point was more that he is in fact a pretty clutch player, which is a quality of his that tends to fly under the radar. His 20 career GWG is very good, which equates to about 1 out of every 5 goals of his being a GWG. This is over 389 games. It’s hard to find a comparable but Laine has 25 game winners in 408 games, just to put it in perspective. Anderson is kinda like a big Paul Byron. He’s explosive and clutch, and whether you play him on the 4th or 1st line, they will tend to score counterattack goals mostly.

I cannot quite understand why the coaches did not utilize Slafkovsky on the power play. Seniority rules. This is wrong & reminds me of previous regimes. They drafted this guy to be a 1st line winger. He needs to be on the PP.

I see more value in the learn by doing approach.

I see more value in the learn by doing approach. Particularly if you're watching Hoff and Gally out there. Slafs does not, and should never, play their style of game.

Excellent video evidence, then, for what NOT to do.

Detroit’s passive trap defense neutralized the Habs rush transition offense and the Habs gave up too many high danger scoring chances (thanks Jake for keeping it close). Lots of teaching moments for MSL and staff but not much time to implement it with the quick turnaround to Washington.
I expect some rotation of forwards tonight.
