The Vancouver guys on sportsnet are pretty good... better than goof galley Agree. I watch a lot of Nuck games (glutton for punishment) and have learned to appreciate the quality and fairness of the group. John Shorthouse and John Garrett are a good team. I've always liked Shorthouse. He calls it as he sees it. And his play by play is great. Almost always calls the actual name of the player with the puck, even when it's not a Canuck. Unlike most Homers who simply say the team's: "Bruins have the puck and shoot it in".

For all the hype of X's big tough mitts, he's actually got some soft hands. His skating is crazy good for a guy his size. That was clear watching a guy like Meyers who just looks downright clumsy. My only concern is his head for the game - seems to make too many dangerous, risky decisions. Hopefully it's a matter of maturity. Harris and Guhle both have a great head for the game.

Wifi will be fine if he stays within his limits, nothing fancy, just smart and simple. He does have good lateral movement and distributes tge puck well... one thing he does do is always gets the puck on net

I agree, he needs to work on his puck handling and stick handling. I find too many times he loses the puck trying to make one too many moves. His movement and shot are tremendous. I love the way Guhle plays. Our D is not looking too bad, especially when Matheson gets back.

He has played well of late.

It will probably be Kova who sits, but I do like his size and movement. He has played well of late. It's sad in a way because Kovacevic and Harris have made a darn good pair. You can't sit Guhle or WiFi, leaving the 2 vets, who won't be sat either. It's a numbers game but gives Hughes some latitude to move one of Edmundson or Savard (probably Edmundson because he'll have more value and is a left handed guy). We've still got Barron and Norlinder down in Laval and Hutson/Mailloux in the pipeline. I've been surprised by how quickly Guhle and WiFi have acclimated. Harris was never an issue for me, as I thought his play style and skill set would translate smoothly. He made a few stops last night on Pettersson, who is a very shifty guy. Having said that, the Canucks as a team were sluggish yesterday.

As long as we are not taking a very close look, we're doing pretty good on defense with 3 rookies and a castaway.
Guhle looks a bit overwhelmed at times. He's meeting players who are just as strong as him and he's not dominating them like he was use to. The kid needs another 20-30 pounds of lean muscle to be dominant. Weber was in the 235-240 range. Guhle is in the 210 range right now. A bit light to play his style of dominant defense. But, he's far better skater and game processor then Weber ever was.
The punishing higher apparent in Weber is X. He's likely to settle in at the 250 pound range of pain. All he needs is to practice his cannon, which he has ample size to power.
I'm finally watching my Habs again...

I don't know what is wrong with Vancouver but it's major. The game decayed into a low energy game from our guys simply because the Nucks were dead meat skating.
Two of their older best are there for the taking, but we can't use them. Too old by the time we are ready to rock.

I was clamoring for the Canucks to trade JT Miller and shore up their defense. Instead they extended him, and seem to be shopping Horvat instead. Horvat is a much better player. Not as offensive, but far less likely to create major gaffes like Miller does. I watch a lot of Canuck games because of Sportsnet Pacific being part of my package. Their defense is really suspect. Myers is inconsistent as hell. Looks great some days (he can really skate) but too often is like last night, losing battles to smaller players (nearly everyone else). Ekman Larsson is a shadow of his former self. They're missing Travis Dermott and that statement itself tells you all about their defense. Benning was such a fool. Ekman-Larsson and Connor Garland cost them the 9th overall pick in 2021, Dylan Guenther, who has 6 points in 11 games with Arizona, is 19 and costs them about $1MM a year while Garland and Ekman-Larsson are taking up $13MM, all for at least the next 4 years. So stupid, but hey, the owner wanted to win now. What he has now is a giant hole, he just keeps throwing money in. Those two aren't the worst players, but you could duplicate their contributions for half of what they are paying. And they're not getting better over the next 4 years.
We've been lucky (or good) in that some of our kids are progressing extremely well. That's those on the big club and those still in juniour or other teams. Timmins and the current scouts have done a good job the last few years. Benning had that with Judd Brackett but wouldn't give him the Assistant Manager title and lost him to Minnesota. Another power play from one of the dumbest GM's to hold the job. And just like Bergie, he lasted far longer than he should have. Survivors, those guys.
Anyway, this is a Habs site, so enough about the Nucks.

If we have to sit any of our young D-men, I would elect to send either X or Harris down to Laval. They're the two guys who could really stand to work on their offensive games.
I think we all see that there's some offensive upside in AX. The good news is that he's willing to explore his offense while he's with the Habs, but it wouldn't hurt if he spent 20+ minutes a night in the AHL getting more puck touches and offensive deployments. It's crazy to think about it, but he barely has any experience in an offensive role, ever. Basically just one year of junior hockey.
I lean towards sending Harris down, because I'm not convinced that he's going to improve his game at this rate. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, he already plays an extremely mature game. But he's got room to grow, and I wonder if he could ever become dominant. I forget which game it was, but at one point you could see that Harris just decided that he was going to beat the defender and take it wide to the net, and he did it with ease. The hardest part for him was just deciding to do it. The kid has some awesome tools but I'm not sure how willing he is to explore his offense while he's up in the big leagues. It may be worth it to make him "the guy" in Laval for a while.
Kovacevic has been exactly what we needed. He would be the easiest player to sit, but if he sits then we're moving Harris or X over to the right side again. Not ideal - this season is all about development.

I don't think you have to pick one dman to sit or be sent down. They should be continuously rotated in and out of the line-up. The rookies, and I include Kavs in there, have never played this much hockey and certainly not at this level. The kids will burn out if they keep playing every game. As well, I'd have a coach with them in the press box while they're watching the game to talk about the play and the right decision.
Now we just got to get rid of Wideman.

Wideman…is the D out once Maddy comes back …the swing will be between Kov and Wi-Fi …most likely
