Not a Marinaro fan but you need to give this a listen. So glad we have Gorton... and Engels afterwards is pretty good considering most of the beat writers in Spotsnet write drivel Eric should write like he speaks on this podcast youtu.be/_g0YfLr90Ak

It is obvious Caufield likes playing for St. Louis and with Suzuki. Of course, I am not anticipating that he is planning to leave money on the table. But I think the market has already been set over the last few months (Robertson, Hughes, Zegras, Suzuki, Thompson, etc.). There are always a couple of contracts that seem like outliers (Marner, Stutzle, etc.) in an unsettling way, but overall I do not believe there is much reason to worry.
It is really a question of whether Caufield wants to go medium-term (4 years) or long-term (7 or 8). I really do not see short-term being the best option for the player or the club.

I lke to see a full season of CC before offering him long term.
Interim 2 year contract will erase all doubt and then sign him long term.
Will it cost more? Sure but at least we have more certainty about his career.

Man, I don't know. Suzuki signed his deal with 127 regular season games (.645 ppg) to his credit. That contract is looking very good for the organization.
By the end of this season, Caufield will have around 150 games under his belt. I think if Gorton and Hughes can sell Caufield on the future and get a long-term deal done, that would make a lot of sense.

And if they can sign him to Suze money even better...

I don't need to see any more to go all in on Caufield. He's just a natural sniper and he's improving in all other aspects of the game. He already was an underrated passer. Sign him for 8 years and let's have a Suzuki/Caufield duo.
