Slaf has to show that it’s the plugs that are bringing him down. And I’m not placing blame on Slaf here. I’m just saying that he has to recognize scoring chances, take more control on the ice …. It would be one thing if he was setting up the plugs for grade A scoring chances and they were muffing, but he is giving up high quality shots and making passes that have about 5% chance of being made. That won’t get him on higher lines. But shooting and taking control of the line will I'm not making excuses for him here . . . but I am. I put it down to rookie nervousness (which he has to get over): "I'm just barely in the NHL and they have been here for a while, they know what they are doing with the puck". Even though they don't. It's on MSL to talk to him and say "lead, don't follow". It'll come. Three ways of looking at it: 1) coaches should tell Slafs you're The Guy on that line, and certainly the only guy with a shot; use it; 2) put him on with better mates so if he's going to be a passer too, then there is some purpose to passing; 3) if Slafs isn't getting the message of what his role is on that line, then let him mature in the minors.

Who ever runs the powerplay should be fired... enough of this stupid pass back into your zone... it does nothing but let the other team get set It's a simple play. They have four guys lined up stationary on the blueline. A simple dump in the zone and go after it. There is no way they are going to beat you to the puck. Set the play up from deep behind the goal line. Pittsburgh and Boston do it all the time.

The schedule in December looks significantly harder than October or November. For sure, looking at it I could see us going 2 and 10 leading up to the holiday break This next stretch will be telling. Heading out for the historically challenging west-coast swing after one of their worst games of the season. Can Marty rally them to pull out a couple of wins, or is a nose-dive coming? They desperately need secondary scoring from some of the vets (Anderson 0 points in 5 games; Gallagher 0 in 4; Dvorak 0 in 4; Armia 0 in 11; Evans 2 in 22; Dadonov 2 in 18). How many years left on these contracts? Yikes!

You are right, Andrew. Of course, there are no easy answers. I thought Monahan's line looked strong in the offensive zone after Armia was removed. Maybe they can build on it for Thursday. I am sure Monahan really wants to win in Calgary. If I were St. Louis, I might just flat out ask him hey who do you want riding with you against the Flames and settle it that way.
It is a shame that Dvorak's line does not hit much or fit the bill as a shut down line because for all their best intentions they simply lack offensive quality. They are basically a bunch of guys who are just sort okay at everything but good at nothing in particular.
Evans, who knows? He is a feel good story, plays hard and responsible, and is not a cap problem (in either AAV or term) for the club. But he needs to pick it up here. The reality is kids (Mysak, Beck, Mesar, etc.) will be pushing for roster spots next fall and particularly the following year and a guy like Evans could certainly get pushed out the door.

Evans hasn't been the same since Shyte-flie hit him...
We can expect to see half of the forwards turned over in the next 2 years

Honestly, if they don’t get that PP fixed (or even remotely improved), this will be a very tough month ahead. Burrows, your PP is back in 31st spot.
