Wow, that Diaz trade worked out rather nicely.
The Canucks are playing better hockey over the last month. But they have to know in their hearts that without a healthy Demko stealing points left and right there will be no playoffs this season. And, overall, there just seems to be major strategic uncertainty always hanging over the Vancouver organization -- who should be the coach, who is part of the core, go for it or rebuild?
I am sure St. Louis told the boys playing stupid hockey needs to be out of character for us, so let's move on and be hungry and smart in the next one.

Vancouver underachieving seems to be a perennial discussion point.

The Nuck drama is a guarantee every season. Boeser is now the guy stirring git up - some even say he'd be a good fit in Mtl When you can't sign your captain then it is rare that the team can play well. No doubt the place will be half full of Habs fans (I usually go but can't make the trip this year). Hopefully Les Boys can give the faithful something to sing about: Ole; Ole, Ole, Ole!!!

Yeah, it sounds as though Boeser's days are numbered there. He has not produced goals this season and seems to miss of chunk of games every season.
Moreover, despite the fact that he does not have any trade protection, I still think Canadian clubs may be wary of him. Even with two and half years left on his contract, there is not much point in giving up assets and using significant cap space for a guy who apparently wants to be south of the border.

Even with two and half years left on his contract, there is not much point in giving up assets and using significant cap space for a guy who apparently wants to be south of the border. His father died last year after a long illness and that affected him badly. He missed quite a bit of time for personal reasons. I've seen him have a big impact on a game and then be kind of invisible. The scoring talent is there. The red flag for me is similar to Gallagher....his skating. It was ok before, but with the league speeding up, seemingly every year, I wonder if he can keep up. At some point, this trend has to slow down (pardon the pun). If you stand back a bit from games today you can see they are played at a freakingly fast pace. Coaches have really emphasized transition and if you don't mentally switch from offense to defense and back again quickly, you'll be in the minors. Some games look like track meets, sprints one way and then the other. Removing the two line pass rule has helped that change and players are so much more skilled and faster than they were.

Wow, that Diaz trade worked out rather nicely. Even more than nicely. That 2nd round pick that came with Danault became Romanov who, packaged with a 4th round pick (who isn't progressing much), turned into Kirby Dach. So....Raphael Diaz and Alex Romanov for Phil Danault and Kirby Dach.

It is amazing that Guhle is adapting so well to the right side as a rookie in the NHL, since I am not aware that he ever played much there in the WHL or with Team Canada.
I hope the game tonight is mostly 5v5. The game against the Oilers denaturalized rather after the first period. A lot of guys never found much rhythm as a result.

So Savard is out. Will be interesting to see if he is the vet, steady presence that many say he is. I'm not convinced of that. Let's see.

Typical. Suzuki kept puck in by 4 inches. Harris gives puck up to an elite scorer and he does.
After that, Hughes looks like Orr.

Nice tip passfrom Suze to Monahan but totally surprised Monahan. All alone in front but couldn’t corral the pass.

There’s a long story over the messed up franchise that is the Vancouver Canucks. The latest chapter goes back to the ownership battle between Francisco Aquilini and Tom (?) Gaglardi who owns the Stars. Aquilini won and the Canucks have been cursed since then. Poor ownership breeds poor decisions and poor results.
You want a quick turnaround rather than toughing out an extra year, so you remove Trevor Linden and hand power to a dumkopf like Jim Benning who gets rid of an excellent talent evaluator, Judd Brackett (now AGM in Minny). Benning starts burning up the talent so you move to Rutherford (who has yet to show me he can win anything without a wheelbarrow of horseshoes) who extends Miller rather than trade him, etc, etc, etc.
But this game’s only in the first and Vancouver has replaced their sieve.
The main lesson is to not abandon the rebuild too early.

The Canucks came out fast and forced the issue for 5-7 minutes. Then Montreal dug in and started to dictate the play against the woeful Vancouver d-corps. It seemed like after the Suzuki goal, the Canucks all looked like they wanted to be anywhere except playing the rest of the game tonight. I suppose that a team with a lot of holes (defense, in net) and a lot bad vibes/negativity in the marketplace just loses its will to believe and compete.

Guhle's assist was his 10th point of the season, ties him at 37th on the all time Habs rookie defenseman scoring list with
Patrice Brisebois 1991-92 Ken Reardon. 1940-41 Kent Carlson. 1983-84 Tom Johnson. 1950-51
