Absolutely marvellous win! There are so many positives and great habits being established here that I can't begin to list them. The character on the big club is taking a large jump up next year.

There will be a few guy's on the Hab's that are going to have to pick up their game or they'll be on the way out.Chipchura,O'byrne and maybe Price are going to get a good look in Montreal.

play by play guys are guessing around 14, so no sell out but big crowd nonetheless. Gogie and all must have a pretty good time. Gogie and son had a great time! The crowd was amazing, except for Section 105.....full of Bears fans. It was kind of comical, actually (moreso last night) because the whole place would go wild when the Dogs scored except for this one whole section where everyone sat on their hands. At the end of the game tonight they rolled up their carpet and didn't bother to stick around for the trophy presentation - sore losers . When Houston won in 2003 I was at the game and all the fans stuck around to see the trophy given to them. Anywho, I'm usually not too demonstrative at hockey games but tonight I was really into it. I actually jumped in the air when Baines scored! When they announced they were going to present the MVP award I started chanting Carey, Carey long before they got around to naming him (I think I actually might have been the first one and got the crowd going) - that's not like me ;D. Saw a lot of character development in these playoffs. This was pure and simple a team win. Everyone played as a team and they all looked out for each other. You could see the discipline at the end of the game when Hershey took the two dumb penalties - the Dogs just skated away, knowing they were the better team. Should bode well for the future Habs.

nice to have an entire thread without a negative post isn't it. the future is bright boys, now gainey has to find ways to make room for these players or parlay them into other needs.

Outside of Montreal that was the best atmosphere at a game that I've been too in a long time and it was 3000 short of a sellout(14,200) puts the suits in Toronto to shame. Not the prettiest game but the baby Habs pulled it out! The best part of the ceremony was when the crowd started chanting Carey Carey and the commissioner didn't even have to announce his name as MVP. Had a great time with the kids and am pretty sure Chips will be a Hab next season as for Price that'll be Bobs call,he'll have them thinking about it. HFTO

We were behind the Dogs net and my oldest daughter has a great video of the dogs pouring over the bench and mobbing Price the angle of the shot with the players coming straight at as is priceless. HFTO

Turned on the car radio on the way home to hear Stortini's hoarse voice celebrating.
Wish I could have heard the whole game.
Super job. A team effort for sure, but Price is the man.
I feel a bit for Danis.....he's been paying his dues for quite a while in Steeltown, and played well this year. But his chances of joining the Habs just took a serious nosedive.
Price took them over the top, no question.

I live in Cambridge, Ontario...a mere 40-minute drive to Hamilton. The local paper, the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, features this "in-depth" article in today's edition: Bulldogs Claim Calder Cup
Ajay Baines scored a short-handed goal at 9:33 of the third period, giving the Hamilton Bulldogs their first American Hockey League title last night with a 2-1 win over the Hershey Bears.
It's the franchise's first Calder Cup in its 11-year history. Hamilton, the affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, won the decisive Game 5 of the best-of-seven AHL final in front of a crowd of 14,206 at Copps Coliseum. That's it....nothing about Carey Price winning the MVP. No player/coach comments. I hate living in Leaf-media territory. Where did the Marlies end up this season? Oh yeah...last place in the division. There are 4 professional teams in Ontario. Ottawa made the Stanley Cup Finals. Hamilton won the Calder Cup. The Maple Leafs and Marlies both missed the playoffs. Now, that would make an interesting article......

Somehow, had Halak been in goal, I don't know whether we would have gotten the same results.

Somehow, had Halak been in goal, I don't know whether we would have gotten the same results. That's debatable. .932 save percentage, a GAA of 2.00 and six shutouts (in just 28 games). Those are Halak's AHL numbers. Not too shabby, if you ask me.

P.S. - I'll wave to you all as I cheer on the Dogs! (I'll be wearing my AK #17 red Dogs jersey - look for it ;D). P.P.S. - At the risk of jinxing myself, just for the record this will only be the 5th time in the three years I've had the AK jersey that I've actually worn it to a game. The Dogs have won every time so far (beat the Marlies earlier this year at the Ricoh Centre, won game 5 against Chicago and games 3 & 4 against Hershey. My record lives on!

According to the Star Choice website, the NHL Network is carrying tonight's Calder Cup game live. See channel 465 on the grid below and check your local listings for the station on your dial! tvlistings4.zap2it.com/starchoice/grid.asp?partner_id=starchoiceP.S. - I'll wave to you all as I cheer on the Dogs! I have a white AK-17 jersey from his rookie season, which is cool since he switched numbers after that first season if I recall. I had to chuck it on to celebrate from afar.

Mine's from his rookie season as well. It's actually an authentic (not replica) that he signed for me. I got the sweater as part of a season ticket holder promotion that year. Originally I was supposed to get a trip to Montreal to see a Habs game, but that was the strike year, so the Bulldogs had to come up with something else. At first they tried to pawn off replica jerseys on us, but I (and others) complained and said they should be authentic, given what we were missing out on. The Dogs relented, but I had to pay for the lettering - the autograph was free. My wife got a Plekanec jersey at the same time (autographed as well). AK wearing 17 his first year wasn't a good idea. The year before Marcel Hossa wore 17 and he was despised by the Bulldog fans (he was lazy and uninterested in being in Hamilton). I wasn't keen on getting the #17 jersey, but I liked AK so I went with it.

What's wrong with 17?! Murray Wilson wore it in Montreal and that's good enough for me.
PS. Kyle Chipchura wore it this year and it didn't hurt him at all. Hossa? Well, even numbers have off years.

I noticed an interesting article in the sports section of Friday's (June 8th, 2007) Hamilton Spectator:
"Strong reason for success; Bulldogs' conditioning coach pays off dividends in his first year by Scott Radley
[extracts]
"...among the most important pieces of the Bulldogs' run to the Calder Cup finals this season may be a guy named Darren McConaghy. He's the team's first-year strength and conditioning coach...
"...Despite having a considerably older team this year, the Dogs have lost no more man-games to injuries and haven't had a stretch in which they looked physically worn out. Particularly dutring the more-gruelling playoffs.
"More impressive, four players - Dan Jancevski, Corey Locke, Kyle Chipchura and Ryan O'Byrne - played every regular-season game. Prior to this year, only four players had done that in the team's history. And all four have also played each of the team's 21 playoff games.
"'Now everybody knows this is how it has to be,'"says winger Duncan Milroy."
Evidently the physical well-being and development of the Bulldogs' players is getting much more attention than in the past, which can only be good for the Canadiens. Laying the foundations...

Just ask the NY Yankees about the importance of a strength and conditioning coach! They had to fire their first year coach earlier this season after several players suffered groin and hamstring injuries. Apparently the coach had different ideas about conditioning than the previous fitness coach and many players were suffering because of it.
