True... but if he were taking calls on both Monahan and Drouin, I'm not sure he acts as a broker today. đź’Ż% It means he likely is not able to move both today. I wonder if he tries to resign Monahan on a cheaper deal and try again next season. A lot depends on health.

Sund is a 27 year old LHD from Finland. He played for them at the World Championships in 2021. Not sure if anything comes of this, but he is a new body. I watched a number of Rögle’s games this year to watch Engström. Not sure I remember much about Sund in those viewings though.

Injuries and goalies are really conspiring to derail this "development year". Our two prize deadline assets devalued, key young players missing development time, and goalies dragging us out of top 5 pick contention.

I'm not disappointed that Eddy wasn't moved. I'm disappointed we got zero for Monahan, would've liked at least a mid round pick.

Any news on if the Canadiens are a part of anything? Did Hughes say anything?

Our two prize deadline assets devalued, key young players missing development time, and goalies dragging us out of top 5 pick contention. I am continually lamenting not being able to enjoy watching Xhekaj, Caufield, Slafs, Guhle for 2 months, and Dach. Hopefully, Farrell signs before long and is able to play, so we can judge his abilities. I also really miss Sean Monahan. He was so good until the injury.

I'm disappointed Anderson wasn't traded, but his contract is a real killer. This summer might be better anyway. Also, he seems to be having a very good year, so that will increase his value as the season goes along. A 25 goal scorer is worth closer to $5.5M than an 18 goal scorer. His pace recently has also been much better, probably at at 30 goal pace and his passing has improved.

Uneventful day, which is not surprising. Montreal was under no pressure to accept unsatisfactory offers for Edmundson.

It's on my DVR. One thing that's made it online is that Monahan apparently injured himself while recovering... not a relapse of a known injury - a brand new one, apparently. I liked him in the lineup but I'm starting to understand why Flames fans were sick of him...

Any news on if the Canadiens are a part of anything? Did Hughes say anything? Presser at 4. Other than the news about Monahan sustaining a new injury while rehabbing his foot, and then not wanting to send Slaf to the Worlds or Guhle to the AHL playoffs to avoid them aggravating injuries, the one interesting tidbit was that he said they held onto that third retention spot as they could use it at the draft. In the end, injuries to the most likely candidates and lack of interest in those guys that most of us complained about all season was the reason this was a snoozer deadline for the Habs. I expect Hughes got offers for Eddy, but lowballs and he seems like a manager who has a price point for a player and sticks to it. The sad part is a former third overall pick is going to finish up his term with Montreal on a whimper, with not even a measly mid to late pick to show for it. Adios.

Yeah, it would have been nice to double dip on Monahan. He has some nice attributes. But time to move on. It seems like a number of lower body injuries can be the cause or effect of other lower body injuries.
Maybe Drouin is already at peace with the ups and downs that he lived through in his NHL career, but I assume Allan Walsh will have to sit down with him and have one of those honest talks about how in all likelihood staying in the NHL will depend on accepting one year contracts at or around the league min.

Other quick notes - RHP and Ylonen will be able to participate in the AHL playoffs if Laval makes them. The paper transaction to send them down and then back up cost us 2 of our 4 recalls this year... and Barron would've been #3 if he hadn't been hurt. That shoulder injury will make him miss valuable development playoff icetime...
---
I think Drouin can see what's coming, in interviews he's been clear that he needs to perform to stick in the NHL... still, it must be hard to get these guys to realize what's happening when after a lifetime of being top dog, they start falling from grace, so very quickly (thinking of Monahan as well).

It would interesting to see the history of $5+ million paid players who are rentals on non-playoff teams and don't get picked up at the deadline. I suspect it's not good.

I'm not so sure Drouin will play any longer. I don't care if someone else wants to give him a contract but as long as I never see him in a Habs sweater, I'm good. He brings back painful memories of "I'll try more next year" Gomez.
Monahan is broken. I don't want him even in league minimum. Let him sign wherever he wants and score 100 goals, move on from him.
I wish we kept Perry. He was a true leader and an inspiration top the young ones.
I don't know if we are going to be active in the FA market. I don't care if we are not but we can't ignore a good deal either. Of course I'm dreaming of "you know who" to be traded to us.

Absolutely no heart. I was stupid enough to believe that he would grow up and realize where he is heading, but nope, same old heartless routine for 5 years. He got over 40 million so far and if decides to retire, he can live like a king. I say move along and do it...

In all his years with Mtl, Drouin never earned his salary and was probably worth no more than $2 million a year, max. I suspect if you looked at the team's record when Drouin was out of the line up, it is much better - see Cup final run. Whenever I watch Sergechev I just cringe. Maybe Drouin should change his number again

Knowing that PoS, he'll go on a scoring spree ... they should send him to laval as a FU... u F'd the habs for 5 years, enjoy riding the bus. Edit: his career earning are over 34 million US.... he deserves all the scorn heaped on him...

Matheson has been showing plenty of offensive upside... When we're contending, I'd like to see him on the 2nd pair. My guess is he'd be a strong 4th dman, but I'm not sure he's dominating enough for first pair. Love his skating. It's amazing.

Guhle-mailloux Matheson-Barron Harris/Xhekaj-Hutson I want an active D on each line..it's why Barron is with Matheson instead of Hutson... I also think the even strength ice time will be spread more even with this lineup On the PP Matheson-Mailloux Xhekaj-Hutson No more forwards on the point

It will be cool to see if they take each other's numbers. Certainly avoid the need for their parents to have to get new jerseys.

And Barron, I was keen on last year before he got hurt. Since being called up this year I haven't been overly impressed despite some rave reviews by Engels and Co. I'm still not sold on him being top 4. in fact, I see Xman's TOI being higher than Barron as we go forward.
