Some of Weise's hot takes in retirement have been eye rollers, but I concur with him regarding how any player would logically size up the offer sheet Kotkaniemi received.
Montreal takes more penalties than any team in the league. Montreal's penalty kill is awful. Carolina's power play (Kotkaniemi in particular) is on a heater. So if the boys opt to lose by 3+ goals I think the recipe for such an outcome is all too clear.
If the Habs skate and play hard, it could be a close game.

Much depends on how seriously the Canes take the Habs. Carolina can really get a forecheck going, something we have difficulty countering.

Not much to look forward to in these games but I suspect the boo birds will be out every time KK touches the puck. Of course he is likely to get the last laugh tonight with a Canes win and KK getting some points, maybe even a goal. He's on pace for a 40 point season.
Bottom line though, signing him for that money would have been a huge mistake But the real mistake was MB letting KK be in a position that the Canes could make the dumb move they did

Kotkaniemi coming off a 5 point night. Now has 12 goals, 18 assists.
Carolina stuck with him so far. Not giving up on him and giving him chances to play higher up in the line up.
Would he have done the same in Montreal? I’m not sure. But I saw glimpses that I liked. I will say this. I’d rather have Kotkaniemi and properly develop him, than have Dvorak and Adam Engstrom

Why wouldn't they give Svechnikiv same penalty as Anderson? He knocked Anderson down then flew down to the other end of the ice.

Anderson got away with a high stick on Kotkaniemi. Kotkaniemi knocked Anderson down behind the net and then sticked him in the back . Anderson then got up, went to cross check Kotkaniemi, but got his stick into his face.
Then later in the shift, Kotkaniemi slashed a defenseman … needless to say their is no love loss

My beef with the Coach's Challenge for goaltendering interference is if you get a penalty for delay of game for being wrong (the delay is mostly due to refs taking too long), then you should get a power play if you are right ... they interfered with the goalie. Interference is a penalty when you do it to skaters, so it should be for goalies too

What a clown. Stepan is a total d-bag acting all indignant after the replay decision. Pezzetta was way behind the play and had no meaningful impact on the path he took or the degree of contact he made with Allen.
Man, the Canes have some guys who are hard to like (Burns, Svetchnikov).
