I expect Anderson to be long gone before Michkov even arrives in the NHL... Slafkovsky and/or Dach would be a better bet to add size to a smurf line. I agree, Josh is 29, I can see him moved at the draft... I'd try to bring Perry back... he'll be inexpensive, he had great chemistry with the rest of the team, was a mentor to CC somewhat and can be on the 4th line with Pez to drive others teams nuts... The real shame is Monahan, the team was so much better with him on it, such a smart player, he could be on the 1st line with cc and Suze and have slaf, dach and I'd try Mesar with them I liked Perry when he was with us as he contributes on so many levels. But he is nowhere close to as effective anymore and a whole lot slower. I give him one more year in the NHL on a 4th line and then he will call it quits. He certainly won't be playing in the NHL when Mich arrives. Monahan will likely cost a lot and with his injury issues is way too risky. i'll be very inteested to see what he gets as a FA. Maybe Roy will be ready in a few years? One would hope that one of our prospects that was not a top draft pick would step up: HP, Farrell, Mesir.

I think a 4th line of Pez, Evans and Perry would be fun... speed and truculence... The third line of Hoffman, bgal, Dvorak and Armia would be the dump line I wonder how Armia would do with Slaf and Dach

I am all for adding some truculence on the right side of the 4th line, but I surmise that Perry likes Tampa and they like him.
I see Slafkovsky as the natural candidate to play with Suzuki and Caufield because he is big, skilled though not really shoot-first, and fast enough. Of course, the very early returns raise some questions about his feel (i.e. anticipating his mates and understanding where opponents are) for the game. Hopefully, it was just the shock of playing NHL games that made him look like his hockey smarts could be an issue. But anyway, the Habs are not making the playoffs in 2023-24 so I see real value in giving the kid a long look on the first line.
And assuming Dubois is not arriving this summer, I would just stick with Harvey Pinard-Dach-Anderson as the second line because they had good chemistry. I know Craig Button was spitballing in the spring about how he could certainly see Roy surprising everyone making the team and claiming a top six role. Time will say, though I believe that is unlikely. From a developmental standpoint, Laval seems like the logical next step in his career.

Most of his career, Monahan has played through injuries. he had the hip issues, which were corrected and seemed to be resolved. Then he had that injury before the Calgary game (toe, ankle, knee?) and forced himself to play in that Calgary game, which was a mistake. It was an avoidable injury, if the focus had been on his health rather than a meaningless gesture. I can never figure that out. Does the player want 'revenge'? Is it a salute to his former fans? Whatever it is, it should not be what drives an important decision. Anyways, after that game, the injury was clearly serious and required a rehabilitation past the trade deadline. Then unofficial tanking kicked in and you wouldn't bring him back and would rather test out more kids. Is he really injury prone? I don't kknow but I'm not ready to paint him with that brush. Also, I'm not sure how expensive he would be. He doesn't have a lot of leverage as every team will worry about that risk. $2MM on a 1 year deal to prove himself?

As an addendum, a viewpoint was expressed on a podcast (Hockey Prospects Radio) recently. The host, who is either an amateur scout or one working for a service, and his guest were comparing prospects (Colby Barlow and Matthew Wood), two power forwards. Barlow is more of a finished product while Wood is still raw. One thing the host mentioned is that he back checked (pun intended) his notes on power forwards throughout the years and found that power forwards who were primarily goal scorers did not have as much success in the NHL as power forwards who were more of the all around or contributor types (good passers). The best example I can think of is Mark Stone. It seems more of those guys had long, successful careers than the pure scoring types. I'm not going through the list of top scorers to seek out the power forwards and count them, but I found it an interesting take. Slafkovsky, to me, is indeed more of a set up guy than a scorer, so I hope he's one of those successful power forwards with a long career.

One would hope that one of our prospects that was not a top draft pick would step up: HP, Farrell, Mesir. If the three of them played on a line it would be called "Three Apples Line". As in , the average height of the players is 3 apples high. Two of those three need to be dealt.

I have not seen enough of Farrell or Mesar to establish any degree of confidence one way or the other about their chances of being NHLers. They both look like very good skaters with quick soft hands. Mesar is three (?) years younger so it is probably easier to assume that Farrell is presently a more finished product physically. I guess I would be more reluctant to trade Mesar but in real world trades a GM has to give to get.
Harvey-Pinard is a small guy but he is nothing like a perimeter player, so I feel relatively confident at this point that he will carve out a NHL career with solid (250+ games) longevity and his game seems translatable to bottom-six roles if more talented guys ultimately push him down the ladder. He is probably going to take a modest two-year bridge deal, betting on himself as he should. And I will not blame management for still having questions about whether they want to bet on him being a core piece. His goal scoring with the Habs seems a little anomalous since he was not a big goal scorer in the AHL, though he was productive offensively. Marchessault is one of those guys who played a long time in the A and has managed to score at a higher clip in the NHL than he did back in his AHL days.

As usual, Dubois may be the answer.
Habs could make him an offer sheet for $6.5 and if he accepts and Jets don't match we give up a 1st and a 3rd in next years draft. He might accept as he gets to Mtl and he gets half milliuon more than he got last year. We, like KK, can then sign him to a longer deal. Jets might not match as they are not likely to get more than a 1st and a 3rd on the trade market given everyone knows he's a rental as he will be a UFA next summer. So the question is whether we want to give up a first and a third or does Hugo think they can get him cheaper next summer. The risk there is that some other team (LA or NYR) comes and offers him a fortune next summer. Conversely, if we make the offer sheet and it's accepted, we run the risk of giving up a 1st and a 3rd for Dubois only playing one year with us.
i'm thinking we let this play out. Wonder if Dubois still wants to come as he has to know now he ain't getting more than Suze. We'll find out if he really wants to come to Mtl.

Jets will match any offer sheet
A hockey trade needs to be done, one that gets them something similar to the first and third
Panthers first rounder this year + Owen Beck

I'm ok with the money and hopefully they tested CC injury and there is nothing there.
Did someone mention Dubois? It's been 30 years since I pimped getting Dubois....

I think the 'dirty' side of the one year offer sheet is that while Winnipeg could match it, the pertinent rules prevent the team matching from trading the player before July 1 the following summer. Thus, the Jets would effectively be walking Dubois to free agency if they match the offer sheet.
Honestly I find it hard to imagine Molson/Gorton/Hughes going full mob boss and doing this. Although I think Chevaldayoff would be silly to let that eventuality arise, no matter how unlikely. Dubois is leaving Winnipeg. He knows it. The Jets' management knows it. The whole league knows it. Chevaldayoff should just work those long hours on the phone and trade Dubois to whoever puts the best deal on the table before July 1.

Cheers.

The problem with the Drouin contract is that MB signed him so quickly to so much when Drouin had proven so little. I'm willing to take a flyer on Lafrenier if he is seen as a reclamation project where we don't give up much and we don't sign him long term until he proves he's worth it.

If Jets are smart theu let Dubois work out a contract with whatever team(s) he wants and then Chevy talks to that team about what they are preapred to give up to finalize the deal. HuGo would be in on the bidding but don't know if we would pay as much as other teams both in salary to Dubois and assets to Jets.

But he clearly isn't looking at giving the Habs a hometown discount, either. If we could get him at a hometown discount, and his trade value tanked because he clearly was only signing here, I'd say it's a worthwhile gamble despite his apparent character flaws. But at 9M and trading prime assets to get him.... I'd rather keep our powder dry and commit our $ ressources elsewhere.

It may be a PR stunt that Dubois has a 3 team list. Or not. Saying he wants to play for 3 teams lets the Jets a bit off yhe hook.
I'm a Habs fan...and paying Dubois 9 million or more for 8 years PLUS stack of assets is starting to look like a cluster pluck.
Rumour was the asking was Dach. Nope, never. Trading Dach for Dubois is 2 nickels fora dime. It's a non starter for me. Florida's 1st and a late second or something like that is fine.
At the end of the day, Dubois can simply ride out his next contract and sign with us for 9x7. No assets lost and no drama. That's if he's honest about being a Hab. OR he's full of baby brown stuff and frankly. I don't want him.

Dubois ain't getting paid more than Suze or Cole as that would be ridiculous for what he brings and what that would do to the locker room. Would anyone trade Suze or Cole straight up for Dubois? Not a chance. So if HuGo wants to engage in the bidding war to get Dubois, the first discussion with Brisson is will Dubois sign for less than Suze. If the answer is no then move on. If the answer is yes then we gotta decide what assets we want to give up. Current players not on the table are Suze, Cole, Dach, Guhle, and Slafs. Nor would I be trading next year's 1st as i think we still got one more year of drudgery before we make the playoffs.

If the answer is yes then we gotta decide what assets we want to give up. Current players not on the table are Suze, Cole, Dach, Guhle, and Slafs. Nor would I be trading next year's 1st as i think we still got one more year of drudgery before we make the playoffs. I also would not trade WiFi I was thinking of including him as i'm impressed and he is a player we could always use even if he's only a bottom pair. But maybe last season was a fluke as he was passed up by many and add in his injury. If he can nolonger fight or keeps throwing the shoulder out then that's a huge loss to his impact
