What if Gainey suprises everyone and makes some major moves...
Well, here are three deals that I think would put us in place to make a dent in the playoffs this year, and contenders sooner rather than later.
1-O;neil/Hill from Carolina for Zednik. this one is out there already, and again, i think that he'd be crazy to pass on it.
2-Kovalev and Simon for Hossa, Rivet and one of Balej, Perez or Plekanec. Rangers are ready to deal, Kovalev is on the block, and they want prospects and d help.
3-Witt and Grier for Hainsey, Perrault and a throw in (a late pic or Juneau/Dackell/Bouillion). Washington is selling, and with all of it's established offensive threats gone or on the way out, they might bite at the chance to pick up a cheap young off-d-man even if packaged with a stiff like perrault.
These three deals would leave us with a line up like this
O'neil-koivu-kovalev // Souray- Brisebois
Dags-Ribs-Ryder // Markov- Hill
Sunny-Bulis-Grier // Witt- Komisarek
Simon-Begin-Ward
That looks pretty drats good if you ask me, and not all that unrealistic. The beauty is that we bring in 6 players all around 30 years old with at least 3-4 more years of good hockey left (except maybe Hill), while only loosing 3 prospects.
I know that none of these moves are likely, so don't be in a hurry to point out that Hainsey and Hossa are still full of potential, or that kovalev's salary and inconsistancy don't match, or that no one wants perrault... THis is just meant to be a hypothetical... something to distract me from the school work that I should be doing.
cheers.
