Droopy back to his old ways in ottawa...sens leading 4-2 in the second, drouin backs into the offensive zone ahead of his teammate carrying the puck in, and the guys scores... Sens challenge and it gets called no goal.

He had both feet in the Ottawa zone before the puck carrier got there. How do NHL linesman miss something that blatant? Oh, wait....

The Leafs blow a 2 goal, 2nd period lead and lose to the Oilers 4-2. 4th straight loss for Toronto, 11th straight win for Edmonton.

They let them all go and hope for a replay. Just call it the way you see it. (Ruining the game with all these delays.)

They were damn near perfect. (Refs weren't that bad either) That may have been before Bettman and Colin Campbell took over. The game has sped up, but the leadership at NHL HO hasn't.

The Leafs blow a 2 goal, 2nd period lead and lose to the Oilers 4-2. 4th straight loss for Toronto, 11th straight win for Edmonton. Marner quoted afterward and made some comment about "others" not believing in the Leafs. He was referring to Craig Button who came down pretty hard on Marner's team a few days ago. Button's right though. There's something intrinsically wrong with the team. Even though they're weak at the back end, there are other symptoms (like not being able to hold a lead, going 5-11 or something like that in a recent stretch and with 4 of those 5 wins coming against bottom dweller teams). I chuckle all the time because there's one guy on that team that fans consider untouchable who is one of the biggest losers around. Matthews' teams don't win championships, at least not his 'important' teams. The solution to their problems is staring them in Matthews' mirror every day but that's the last thing any Leafs GM would do (except me). Easy excuse...need to bolster goal and defense. I think with Marner, Tavares, Nylander they can score enough (you can add another solid forward in the Matthews return). Just fix those gaping holes on the team. Sheesh, what the hell am I doing giving the Leafs advice? Fortunately they won't listen. Don't be on a concrete floor when you shoot yourselves in the foot again, fellas, the ricochet could kill someone.

Marner, what a crybaby. What have the Leafs ever done to make people believe? They fail in the playoffs every year.
When they came back from that road trip and beaten the Ducks and the Sharks (twice) and kept the goals down the media noise was the same. The Leafs get it now. They know what they have to do to win - bla bla bla. I live in leafland so I've heard it all before and seen the patterns. I knew it wouldn't last and it sure didn't.
Toronto is 12th overall and the wild card teams in the east are only a point behind them. Heck, the Habs are only 7 points behind them. They are 25th in regulation wins. Wouldnt a collapse out of playoff spot be sweet? There would be widespread panic.

Edmonton wins their 12th in a row over Seattle. And I guess all is right with world again - Leafs win & Matthews has 3. James Duthie can't help himself. He seems to have some sort of bromance going and every time Matthews scores he brings up his projections - can he score 70 bla bla.

He seems to have some sort of bromance going and every time Matthews scores he brings up his projections - can he score 70 bla bla. Well, he is the best goal scorer in the league Having Matthews on your team, even if he has tons of individual success, has led to his team losing, and not near the precipice. Usually it's at base camp. That's over 10 years with 3 teams. I'd take Jack Eichel over him any day. Who else? Elias Pettersson, Mackinnon of course, McDavid obviously, Barkov, Crosby, Jack Hughes and even Nick Suzuki, though I'm biased there. Some are obvious, but others I could make a really strong argument for. I could probably add more to the list, but that would involve personal preferences over the type of player they are, so I've just gone with the obvious names. Matthews is not a guy I'd go to war with and that might be the best way to describe him. Matthews can score. He probably should be a winger rather than a centre, because he's a finisher rather than a creator. Marner is a much better creator. I'd choose Marner over Matthews. At least Marner has won a Memorial Cup.

Now Marner's a guy who I might be interested in. Still 26 so timeline is a little older than I'd like but not outrageously so. Too expensive, though. Leafs would want Guhle, Roy, Xhekaj etc.

Now Marner's a guy who I might be interested in. Still 26 so timeline is a little older than I'd like but not outrageously so. Too expensive, though. Leafs would want Guhle, Roy, Xhekaj etc. I wouldn't touch any of the Toronto core-4 ... William Nylander has gone into glide mode ever since he signed that contract ... Nick Suzuki is a better captain than John Tavares, IMHO (so is Morgan Reilly, as far as that goes) ... I've never looked at Austin Matthews in the same way, after he was rag-dolled by Ben Chiarot in the playoffs a few seasons ago ... until his 14-point effort in last year's playoffs, Mitch Marner's playoff stats aren't all that impressive ... all that said, the Leafs will be looking for, at least, 3 x top-4 d-men and, at least, two goaltenders, and moving Marner would probably be their best option to fill some of those spots ... if it's Montreal then, yes, any combination of draft picks, defensive prospects (le Club's deepest position), and either Cayden Primeau or Jacob Fowler (tagged by some talking-heads as, can't-miss) ... so, for kicks and giggles, let's say Montreal meets the price (whatever it is), and Marner is a Hab ... Montreal has their elite scorer, while Toronto is instantly better, too ... what kind of scratch will he be commanding after his current gig is up ... he currently makes $10,903,000/year ... would le Club be willing to pay him more than their captain ... Cheers.

The Islanders have some nice pieces (Sorokin, Barzal, Dobson) but most of their roster is kind of meh; hence they are a middling team. And the prospect pool is weak. Roy is hyper competitive, but this will not be an easy job.

CBC reporting that Perry is signed with the Oilers for the rest of the season. Surprised by this as he left Chicago under such a cloud.
