That 3rd Ottawa goal was brutal. Batherson was practically standing on the red line when he shot it. Tkachuk's goal was his 300th point. Thanks again Bergevin. I'm not disappointed we didn't pick Tkachuk. I don't like much, if anything, about the character in that family. It's no wonder they have hardly ever actually won any team awards. Now if you want to use Quinn Hughes as the guy we should have taken, I agree 100%. I liked him on that day and like him even more today. For a little guy, his defensive numbers are pretty darn good and there's no need to discuss his offensive abilities. TBH, I liked KK too. We needed both centres and D men back then. Obviously Bergie thought the thirty somethings we had on D were going to last forever. He will forever be a twit in my book. Not the brightest light or sharpest stick, though he thought he was.

Samsonov looks cooked. Some of those goals were awful. How lucky were the Blue Jackets to get Fantilli at #3...

Samsonov looks cooked. Some of those goals were awful. How lucky were the Blue Jackets to get Fantilli at #3... I think Samsonov is suffering what every loaf goalie deals with in the Shanaplan era, a Saperlipopettety D corps and no defensive structure with selfish players... In the loss to Columbus Goal 1 there are 4 guys in front of samsonov no chance, the fault lies with the D not clearing the front if the net Goal 2 there are 2 blue jackets who come in alone on Samsonov, he gets a piece of the puck but it goes over him and in, the fault lies with the D Goal 3 samsonov screened on the PP, cbj player tips it, samsonov gets a piece of it... not his fault Goal 4 Reily and leafs D are behind the net, 3 leafs behind the goal line afaint 1 cbj player and Reilly coughs up the puck and it comes out in front to a wide open blue jacket, no chance for Samsonov Goal 5 nice shot by Fantili but he should have made the save Ot Goal Nylander lined up on the wrong side of the faceoff dot, should have been on the same side as Reilly but I think it was a planned breakout assuming Tavares wins the draw but Gadreau going in all alone while Reilly is in no man's land and Nylander and Tavares are tied up with the cbj faceoff guy.. no chance for Samsonov...

Got to love Hockey Night in Canada. Almost 15 minutes into the pre game show & they're still talking about the Lesfs.
First intermission is pretty much the same & Friedman spends most of his 2nd period segment talking about the Leaf goaltending. Then McLean throws out an unfounded rumor about MA Fleury.
Ending up switching to the Lions - Cowboys game.

Looks like the Sens have hired Dave Poulin as Senior VP of hockey Ops... I really liked Poulin doing the Habs games on TSN...

I like Poulin too -- smart, articulate guy.
Poulin and Staois may have to contemplate breaking up the core because, if not, there is little flexibility going forward.

Yeah, I saw that. Well, until Woll returns in 4-5 weeks, Toronto is rolling with a 36 year old on league min and some kid with zero NHL experience.

That's a surprising stance for a team that is supposed to have such high ambitions.
If they slip in the standings due to sub par netminding in only hurts their chances. What if Woll comes back & is not at the same level as he was before. Can't believe they are risking it.

As soon as Keefe publicly blames Samsonov for the leafs Saperlipopettety team D, you know he was getting waived, meanwhile Shammy sits in New York twiddling his thumbs... I thought the habs were dysfunctional under burgerbrain...

I thought the habs were dysfunctional under burgerbrain... I suspect Hughes is playing a few guys against each other. There are several teams going the very cheap route for a couple of weeks or until the TDL praying to the Cranky gods to have one of their existing goalies turn their season around. The odds of that are the same as Cranky's gods actually giving a damn. At some point, Jake Allen, a perfectly serviceable guy, is going to be in very high demand. The difference between Hughes and Berg is that Hughes will actually pull the trigger without needing to get an aircraft carrier for a kayak. We can look back on a number of very satisfying deals and very few regretful ones.

The last 2 times the Leafs played CBJ they allowed 11 goals. How on earth do they shutout LA?

The Hens are getting their asses handed to them 5-1 in the 1st vs the nucks I thought Martin was supposed to instill some structure & discipline. The last 3 goals by the Canucks came in the final 3 minutes of the first and it was game over. What have they won since he took over - 3 games?

Yep. We keep putting space between the Sens and ourselves. Sigh. I blame our goaltenders and Slafkovsky. If he hadn't begun turning into a legit Grade A power forward, we'd have a lot fewer points. Suzuki and Caufield would have lower production. I saw one comment today on Twitter that they couldn't believe how many goals were directly related to work by Slaf (forechecking turnovers and goalie screens) where without his play, the goal wouldn't have happened, yet he go no points from it. My guess is that number is about 5 or 6. He's been 'scoring' at a much higher rate than it shows.

Drouin got his 7th tonight. Couple more and he'll catch our elite sniper CC I was surprised by that number too but he has something that Caufield and Suzuki don't have -a teammate who is top two in the league in MacKinnon. I would say only McDavid is better. Add to that the presence of Rantanen and Makar, arguably the best D man in the NHL. Avalanche opponents gear all their efforts to stopping those guys so he is probably not facing elite defenders very often. He is definitely not front and centre now and doesn't have to face a demanding media any more. He's almost 29 and projects this year to about 18 goals and 44 points. Not bad for a guy making 825K on a 1 year deal. I wonder if they will renew him.

It was almost inevitable that Drouin would manage something like this. Get away from the pressure in Quebec that fueled his problems, hook up with not only a juniour teammate, but an elite centre, and presto. Just imagine for a minute if he'd resigned in Montreal and had Dvorak centring his line. There, that should get rid of any possible regrets.
