The special teams continue to amaze. Good news: we haven't committed a penalty yet Bad news: our PP is 1 for 4 (or is it 5) ... But at least Slafkovsky scored on the PP (from Newhook 🤫)

I thought the Blues were not that good. Oh well, the normalization has begun.

That’s what happened when refs think you’re a bad team. The expect you to fail so they’re ready to call penalties on you and forgive those of the opposition. After sll you’re lousy and that’s why bad things happen to you.
Or….they’ve been instructed to screw the Habs by Campbell.

Yes, that is a shot at the Suzuki to Caufield shtick that is fooling nobody anymore. Don’t even talk about the back passes.

Shocking!

So after 11 games , Caufield has 4 goals. That's a 29 goal pace
Anyone still think he is scoring 40?

Slaf on the top line and another goal. Shocking! Another goal? 🤔 Slaf scored on the PP unit, on a play that didn't involve Suzuki or Cole And that was Suzuki scoring late in the game on a play that was all Caufield Slaf didn't look out of place on Suzuki's line, but that line clicks no matter who is on it

Slafkovsky was 50% of that last goal and yet doesn’t get a point. He looked good offensively but still had no discipline in Hab’s end. The bits I saw, anyway.

Slafkovsky’s goal was really good. He made a good play after the Blues screwed up the zone exit, feeding Gallagher I think. The Newhook and Slaf had a nice give and go and the finally you can see Slaf position his stick to roof it. Hofer got a piece but not enough. Three different, consecutive good plays.

Realistically, neither does RHP if you look objectively and get over the good news story of local seventh round kid done good. That is a great pairing still searching for a third wheel.

That pair reflects an issue with the whole team and that’s defensive discipline or positioning in their zone. They don’t seem to like taking the body. Running at everyone is stupid, but just getting in their way after they’ve made a pass and looking for space because that’s where the danger is are two things to improve upon. Joining your buddies in front of the net is not looking for space. Marty gets the space thing offensively but surely he realizes that works both ways. PS. Sam’s not stealing any games for us this year. Wise move to want a ‘prove it’ year.

Cole struggled and has for few games now. Slafs showed some soft hands on afew plays tonught which is why i haven't given up hope. But he, or the coaches, have to work on his positioning at both ends.

Well, my new whipping boy is Matheson. So i will be giving regular Matheson Rants (MRs) going forward.
Hard to believe a guy with the word "math" in his name can be so stupid. He just doesn't get it. He had the -3 tonight - and it was well earned with him being responsible for the goals scored against. And having him on the first PP is ridiculous. He should not be QBing anything. He thinks because he's such a greaqt skater he can take all these moronic chances which almost always backfire.
There! I feel much better!

The best 3rd wheel has a season long flat and the other one (Monahan) must to be put on another line. Right now we have 3 top 6 and heading in the wrong direction.

I only saw the first, but agree that Matheson was not inspiring confidence with his puck handling or decision making. The first goal was on him.
Glad to see Slaf get the monkey off his back. Hope he can build off of this.
As far as the power play goes, believe it or not we’re middle of the pack at 14th, converting at over 20%. We’ll always want more, but realistically we don’t have the horses to be an elite PP team. If we can continue converting at 1/5 it’ll be a huge improvement over past years.

How is that not tripping on the blues 4th goal? Stu Cowen agrees with you, WD ... I wasn’t sure about it. He went down too easily but the Blues stick was in on Barron’s hands and that’s usually automatic.

Quite a few people were slagging on Suzuki through the first half dozen games for not lighting the lamp and then things (rhythm, chances, bounces, etc.) start to normalize. I would not worry much about Caufield and goals because the dude is a natural sniper (the only thing that worries me is him or Suzuki getting injured).
