Habs on a 5 game losing streak. Coyotes, playing the Jets tonight, are on an 11 game losing streak and 2 points behind Montreal.
I have not decided if I will watch this race to the bottom.
BTW - nice haircut on Nilsson. I know it was the 70s but come on!

Didn't realize Hedberg and Nilsson were that tall. Hull is only 5' 11", (and probably 300 lbs of muscle),, but those two look really big. Great skating line.

Yup. Sens and Buff are leaving us in the dust. CJB with big win today over Rags. Our best case scenario is finishing 4th worst or 29th overall - that's below Yotes and CJB. Very doable, and losing to Yotes in this one will go along way on the rebuild.

Coyotes battled back and salvaged a point, but their epic (which is saying something for the most shambolic franchise in the NHL) continues uninterrupted. The Habs are careening in a dreadful streak of their own, albeit one that is still less historically notable. However, perusing the upcoming schedule, the boys would do well to kick the dog on home ice Tuesday night because in the event of a loss there is decent chance things could spiral downward.
Classic foto. I love it. You know, for some reason, I thought Hull played a couple of full seasons in Winnipeg. So I looked it up on the NHL's site and was surprised to see he only played 18 games there. Oh well, great photo and classic 'mops' which were basically the precursor to dudes cutting loose and unleashing the mullet, which of course has managed to carve out a permanent presence in hockey culture.

Didn't realize Hedberg and Nilsson were that tall. Hull is only 5' 11", (and probably 300 lbs of muscle),, but those two look really big. Great skating line. Way back there was a writeup on Popular Mechanics on...the hardest slapshot, wrist shot, fastest skating with and without the puck. Hull won most categories. Followed by Gordie Howe. The numbers were something like 118 mph slapshot and nobody has come close. Weber was 30 pounds and 4-5 inches taller with more modern fiber sticks and he just broke 108. I know that the guys practiced with steel pucks and huge curved sticks but the spread is so large that the old records are suspect. The amount of power is not geometric so its a huge power difference between 108 and 118. 205 pound Bobby Hull simply didn't have the power unless he was 300 pounds. I suspect the old records. Edit...lo and behold, I found the article... bleacherreport.com/articles/699528-nhl-25-hardest-slap-shots-in-the-history-of-hockey#:~:text=One%20of%20the%20oldest%20stories,was%20accepted%20as%20scientific%20fact.

The NYT on Bobby Hull, March 12th, 1966. "He shoots at 120 miles an hour-the hardest slapshot in the sport."Cheers.

Roy is a crafty winger. He has enough skill and smarts to bring some value to the middle six in this league.
The Habs started getting some traction with o-zone time late in the period, but for the most part it was a good thing that Montembeault was sharp because Arizona carried a lot of the play.

Slafkovsky needs to smarten up.
Savard is not a wow kind of a guy. But he is a frickin gamer, blocking shots and not taking any shet in the blue paint.

This is embarrassing. Getting out hustled and outshot 2:1 on home ice to a team that’s lost 12 in a row.

The future of the franchise was not decided tonight. They just came off 5 straight regulation losses & they are not going to lose every game.
They played a truly dreadful team & the win was not much of a surprise. They can not pick and choose when they win and lose.

This is embarrassing. Getting out hustled and outshot 2:1 on home ice to a team that’s lost 12 in a row. We were grossly outplayed by a very weak team with Monty being the first star. Some bright spots were X who had a monster game, as did Harris. And the usual suspects, Gally and Josh were awful. Hard to believe they are eating up $12 million in cap space. Nothing positive ever happens when they are out there and one just hopes there isn't a dumb penalty or a costly tunrover with those two.

I really wanted a loss. We need the best possible pick.
Roy could be part of our top 6. With Dach returning, we'll just be down one, next season.
Armia or Anderson has gotta be dealt at the deadline, even if we take back a contract...
Guhle is getting more minutes than Savard, I wonder if MSL is under orders to prepare for Savard's departure.

Roy's got along way to go to be a top 6 but he is deceptive. He may very well be a Luke Robitaille - not a great skater but has other tools and knows how to get the job done. He got some action with Suze and Cole tonight with Slafs playing poorly and taking dumb penalties. Roy still only got 12 minutes.

Ylonen has a sign on his back that reads..DON'T TOUCH ME BRO He has soft Euro written all over him from his pre-draft days. Unfortunatly his skill level is not elite enough to allow him to float through NHL life. He's done.

In the waning weeks of this lost season i would give him a chance with some good offensive linemates to see if he can lose that sign on his back. Now, to find some good offensive linemates

He got some action with Suze and Cole tonight with Slafs playing poorly and taking dumb penalties. Roy still only got 12 minutes. Roy was perhaps the only guy, or at least one of a very, very small club, who meshed well with Bedard at the WJC. He meshed so well, that Bedard was driven to comment on his play. Bedard is faster than Roy. It always looks like everyone else on the ice is faster than Roy, yet he seems to get where he needs to be quickly enough and even when he's beaten to the puck, a little bit of stick work and OMG, he's coming away with the puck. He made a simple play against Arizona, where he was coming up the left wing, pushed the puck ahead to Newhook, who was blazing up the ice, and Newhook fed Armia for a nice goal. Simple play, hey? I can recall the late 70's Habs where headmanning the puck was Standard procedure. Push the puck ahead and it puts more pressure on the D. Do you think Anderson does that? My guess is that Josh would put his head down, hold onto the puck and race Newhook down the ice and into the corner where he would lose it to the Yotes. Roy has a very high hockey IQ and that alone is enough. The guy whose style Roy matches the most is Mark Stone. Not the fastest, really smart, great stick, excellent passer, good shot. To sum up, Roy is a top 6 guy to me all day long and he should be next season.
