Wow, Subban for Weber, a trade that felt like an earthquake or at least the most momentous one in Montreal since Roy was dealt to Colorado.
Nashville has really surprised me this season. Obviously they have a very good goalie, not to mention two stars (Josi and Forsberg) who produce at a point per game rate, plus O'Reilly and Nyquist putting together nice seasons. Trotz has done a nice job as the GM. The team is not uber-talented, but the depth is delivering, the work ethic and attitude are present, and team toughness is there in spades.
Memo to Hughes and St. Louis: how about a shake-up on the fourth line. I hate to say it because I understand how those guys are committed pros trying to stay in the league, but I thought they were dreadful on the sunshine state portion of this road trip. And considering how surly and belligerent the Preds can be, Pezzetta would make a whole lot more sense than the recent status quo.

This is going to be a more difficult game than I thought.
Nashville is holding on to the last wild card spot by virtue of 8 straight regulation wins, all by at least 2 goals. They are hot, have a lot to play for and if MTL plays Allen then it could be a long night.

You gotta get your rose coloured glasses on: Allen gets a shutout and is traded tomorrow for a 1st round pick Well, no 1st round pick for Allen. We were as close to getting a first for him as he was to getting a shutout

NHL Network says it's Allen. And apparently the abomination of a fourth line stays together.

Slafkovsky's coverage of Forsberg is too little, too late. Forsberg buries his 30th. 1-0 Predators.

Dreadful defending there. It is unfortunate because overall the boys played a solid first period.

Anderson fights which is fine with me except he's not very good at it... better than Arber fighting

What was that for? Anderson dropping the gloves with Schenn.

Slafkovsky again can't cover Nyqvist who scores on a give and go.
That's twice tonight. Wake up!

I've been watching since the midway mark of the 1st. Their only good chance was Newhook putting one of the post. Saros is not being challenged.
Still no shots in this period? C'mon.

Strong backcheck by Slafkovsky to prevent a SH breakaway.

Schenn is a heavy. Anderson did fine. I have no idea why they fought.
The boys have been awful in the second period.

Considering how weak our team is, they are tied for most 1 goal games (35)

2 goals in 6 secs

Gallagher with a long distance goal and off the ensuing faceoff Savard scores a weird one off the glass on a dump in, 2-2

Bizarre turn of events. Saros looks bewildered.
Can Montreal build on this? Or will Nashville actually prove their superiority in the third period that they had showed for most of the second?

Nashville is trying to prey on Montreal's fourth line. Tough for Harvey-Pinard at center and after a long injury layoff, but our boys just getting absolutely cratered. I have to believe St. Louis will be shortening the bench relatively soon, unless perhaps that is not part of the big overarching plan.

O'Reilley allowed to come out in front alone & beats Allen from in close 3-2.
Still not sure why Toronto did not re sign him

Well, not only has Montreal's fourth looked scary, the Habs' first line and first D-pair have absolutely been beat down by Nashville's top dogs. This is life in the most elite ice hockey league in the world and it is hard to boss things.
On the bright side, with the Dach injury and the Monahan trade, no one has much faith in the Habs middle-six, and they have actually been strong tonight.
