it's all about timing sometimes. just got home from doing playoff pool and went on whl.ca website and saw the calgary vs swift current game was in double ot. tuned in with 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd OT and with less than a minute left ryan white came over the blue line with the puck with three d-men between him and the goaltender, did a little flip, had his head down and fired a hard wrist shot from above the faceoff circle top corner right over the goalies glovehand for the double ot winner! white with a goal and 3 assists, and they havent' announced it yet but i'm sure will get the first star. hitmen outshot broncos 62-37 announcers dan russell and bill wilms saying it was one of the best whl games they've seen. hope one of you got to see the whole thing. It was a great hockey game. The announcers and I both were all surprised it did not end in the first OT as both teams were flying. Calgary totally dominated the chances after the first 10 minutes of the game and then it was a treat from end to end. Calgary's #2 goalie comes in when it is 4-2 and holds the fort pretty well thereafter, although it was pretty one sided from that point on. Great game by White! Longest game in Hitmen playoff history, and the home town fans went home happy (if not tired!!).

Man. Talk about clutch. Despite White's potential, you can't argue that he's not a gamer.

Overdue for White. He has been really quiet so far in the playoffs. Even with that splurge, he is still 9 points behind team scoring leader T.J. Galiardi in the playoffs so far.

White kept off the scoreboard but Calgary led from start to finish and ended up winning 3-2 tonight to take a nice 3-1 lead in the series. Game 5 is Friday night in the Saddledome.
White was solid again despite not getting the points tonight. Strong on the puck along the boards and in front of the net, good in the faceoff circle, and strong back checking and playing good defensive hockey with a lead. Coach Kisio goes to him (and Alzner on D) in all key situations it seems.

Lethbridge just won 2-1 in 2OT to take a big 3-1 lead against Ben and the Kootenay Ice. Ben was kept of the scoresheet (as was most of his team). A big 2 assist night for promising Swiss blueliner Luca Sbisa who is expected to be another of many good dmen in this year's draft.

And then there was one...
Ben Maxwell and the Ice lose tonight to Lethbridge who now wins the series 4-1. CHL career all done.
Ryan White had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 loss to Swift Current tonight. The Hitmen still lead the series 3-2, but it heads back to Saskatchewan for game six.

Whitey has another big game. Missed the start due to the Habs going to OT, but all is well that ends well...and both did!!
Ryan had 2g and 3a for a big 5 point night in the decisive 8-4 win on the road to clinch their series and go up against Lethbridge in the WHL semis. He really should have had six points as the Alzner goal at 19:37 of the first was a result of White winning a faceoff in their zone and getting the puck back. It went off a Bronco skate and back to Alzner who pounded it into the net for a big 5-2 lead after twenty.
The WHL scoreboard has three Bronco over-agers as the top three stars since this is their last game in the WHL. Shaw TV had Whitey at the first star for all the game reasons.
Not bad for a second liner!!

I thought that was kind of weird. White gets 5 points in a key series clinching game and he doesn't make any of the stars? duh?
So it was homerism, at it's extreme. It's good to acknowledge contribution, but even those 3 guys can't feel like they should accept any of those stars.
Good game by Ryan, for sure....at a key moment. Our kids know how to step up.

Like I mentioned a few posts earlier, I thought Whitey deserved 6 points and I guess in hindsight the WHL agreed. They changed the scoring play on Alzner's goal and gave Ryan another assist. His six points tied a Hitmen record. Great game!! whl.ca/en/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005226

Ryan named WHL player of the week for his good run against the Broncos with 12 points in four games and a nice +6 rating for the week. whl.ca/news/?id=9296The Calgary-Lethbridge series will be on Shaw TV, so another round of Whitey for those in the west who have shaw cable. whl.ca/news/?id=9301

Lethbridge continue their domination of Calgary tonight winning 4 straight to sweep the series. They were 5-1 in the regular season and even more impressive 4-0 in the Eastern finals. Calgary fought back to make it 3-2 and almost tied this puppy, but the tenacious forecheck, skating and superior goaltending of the Canes was too much.
White was pretty visably shaken after losing, it must be tough packing it all in after a good four years and coming up short on your goal for the season. Ryan, some guy named Brisebois will be calling about a thing called an entry level contract soon. Good on you, you played well all playoffs. Welcome to the big fraternity soon...if you thought the junior fans in Calgary were hockey nuts, you ain't seen nothing yet!!
I watched a lot of Ryan live and on TV this season, and he is a keeper for sure. Nothing flashy or overly speedy, but a really solid all round player with great vision, good hockey sense and good sensibility in his own end.
