More speed the marrier...but more importantly is to have the quickness and speed so as not to be a pinata. There is no doubt that he will be targeted and worse, Habs now have a lot of uber Neanderthals that can start a nasty game...just because they can. I can see X and Mailman turning Matthews into a pinata and then Reaves taking out on Hutson. Best medicine for that is to have loads of payback....and team wide unhinged. I don't know how old you are but back in the days of our super teams, the lineup was full of players that took care of business. Cranky, I am hitting the 50 milestone very soon. So basically I missed out on the 1976-1979 dynasty. My Habs fandom and memories start around 1983. And I loved the mix of skill, pace, size, and edginess/nastiness that those editions of the Habs brought to the ice in the mid to late 1980s. For sure, I envision a roster where one small d-man is the maximum number allowable. Up front, maybe two smallish guys who brings high end skill to the table. But, otherwise, emphasize guys who have check the skill, size, skating, and physicality boxes. You missed a time period where the Habs would beat teams any way they liked. Finess? Great. Alley rules? No problem. I often sound like my arms touch the ground because I like a physical, nasty team. I always saw hockey as a tough sport. Our dream teams were always underpinned with lots of toughness. We lost that for decades and now, we're back building up to it. Along with what we have, adding Mailman, X junior, a hidden nasty side of Struble we haven't seen yet, Beck, Tuch, they will add to what is shaping up as the toughest team we had in way too many decades.

All because we have a management team that gets it and has the brain power to execute the plan properly.

I forgot to add Hage. He also has a bit of an attitude. Then there is Mr Violence in Protz.

From what I'm told the plan was to draft and trade for players that had a little nasty streak in them, but they had to be able to punish teams on the scoreboard. The last time we had that, was the team that last won the cup in 93'. Guys like Odelein, Ewen, Skrudland (I think he might have got traded sometime during the season), Roberge, Haller, Schneider, Carbonneau, Damphousse, Keane, I'm sure I'm missing someone. This team would beat the crap out of you then score when you were picking your teeth off the ice. I hope we are trending back to this style of play.

The case of “Where will Mikus play?” takes another twist.
After the draft, Lapointe mentioned he would play in Blainville in the Q.
At the import draft, Acadie-Bathurst picked him a few spots ahead of Blainville’s pick.
Now, a BCHL reporter is confirming that he will actually play in Alberta for Brooks of the BCHL. They are the top Junior A team in the country the last few years, but it would be a move to then transition to the NCAA after getting a season of preparation in the BCHL. I have seen nothing posted officially from the Bandits yet.
He would join the team that fellow 2024 draft pick Logan Sawyer played for last season. Sawyer has just committed to make the jump to Providence College in the NCAA for next season rather than staying another season with Brooks (see a previous post on this).
Where’s Mikus? We will find out for sure next month. I can at least get to a few Brooks games when they come to this area.

Demidov has been named captain of a Russian U23 team that will play four preseason games this month against KHL squads. Interestingly enough, one game is against his own club team SKA St Petersburg. The “where will he play” in the SKA lineup won’t be sorted out for a while yet, at least he will get some real game action in soon.

Speaking of that tournament in Russia, Volokhin is one of three goalies named to the squad. Hopefully he gets some game action in against men.

I'm confused...
Is Demigod playing for a SKA team or in the KHL?
There is no way that he should be playing in the SKA and having another Reinbacher. Molson should just buy his contract and get him over hear PRONTO.

Molson should just buy his contract and get him over hear PRONTO. SKA St Petersburg is a KHL team. One of the better and deepest ones too. The team Michkov was not able to get a full time roster spot on. “Red Army” has two main teams: CSKA in Moscow and SKA in St Petersburg. Plus VHL and MHL affiliates.

That is great that he is the captain of their U23 team. But man let us hope when the regular season gets rolling that Demidov will get a legit opportunity to earn solid KHL minutes.

Right now he thinks he might be slotted as the 13th forward. If he can bang it with the U23 squad and other preseason games he can force his way up the lineup hopefully. Rotenburg and SKA want to win, so he has to bump an older dude off the lineup. He should be good enough to do so, if all is fair. But…

If I'm Mailman i see my 97 rank and seeth.
I rank them...
Demigod Mailman Hutson Rein Hage Beck
The difference is that i expect a defenseman to be able to defend AND have the offense. Hutson is going to find defending a challange and Rein hasn't proven any ability at offense. Mailman can do offense with ease and still developing his defense reads but obviously miles ahead of Hutson.
Between Haig and Beck, i think Beck has the desire but Hage has more talent.

For sure, Hage will be living the dream. That is motivational stuff.
I think Cranky was making a point more about Beck's brand of hockey. The kid likes to hit, battle, and sometimes even agitate.

That half can of warm Coke is getting sent to you as we speak! That probably makes no sense!lol We've been around HabsRus since 2002. We had a poster that now is in hiding called BC (BadCompany). Brilliant hockey poster like you. He and i went at it for a decade and a half, all in good fun. Whatever position he took, i had to force myself to take the opposite one. Epic battles like the Dyment thread that went 23 pages. The constant in all this was the bet...a half can of warm Coke. So since you supported my point....half can of warm Coke on it's way. BC if you are lurking, still love'ya bro. I miss our battles...because you were always wrong!😝

The best Russian teams ('best' as in better funded, more politically correct than the others. Putin owns or has share in CSKA, I think. There are about 3-4 teams that always win it all. But back to Demidov. I kind of hope he doesn't make it, cause then $$ become more valuable to SKA than Demidov's ability to draw crowds and they'll be looking for a transfer fee. This August.

Cranky, I think I started reading Habsrus 10 years ago, started posting 8 maybe going on 9 years ago. But man, Bad Company sounds familiar, like I must have read some of his posts. Or maybe it is just because I have heard some of you guys make reference to him.
A half can of warm coke, eh? An unopened cold pop or two would hit the spot)

Cranky is how I feel now, not how I want to be. I don't remember when BC stopped posting. I met him again when I started posting in Twitter around 2022. He came back here briefly then left again. Sadly, following and posting in HabsRus is not the law of the land, yet, so I assume he's taking a vacation to work on his tan lines. Hope he's back soon. Very soon. Like you and others, his posts ran long, always on point, detailed and thorough. The running joke was "I came to read about hockey and I landed up reading War and Peace". He set the tone of the forum from the beginning, in a way it has intimidated outsiders from contributing, but honestly, HabsRus was never intended to be just a one liner chat forum. Obviously we can't have long, endless discussion on such a limited subject, but we have achieved a balance in our community that other forums only dream of. Long, short, one liners and books of knowledge, all are welcome. Sadly, we can't tax lurkers into contributing, but we certainly want to encourage all mostly sane lurkers to write their thoughts. Anywho...

I went to the mods forum and we haven't had any issues with a poster since 2021. Years before that. Despite the enormous salary we earn, we sit around playing checkers and reading poetry. In the world wide web of crazy, this is our sanctuary.

Bah, BC was trash. His posts might have been good if they weren't so long they put you to sleep. (Ill fated attempt to lure him from his somnambulism). That word, btw, reminds me of another poster with good opinions and an impeccable vocubulary, Beaux Eaux. Nice play on words.

Demidov played a preseason tilt for SKA against Sochi earlier this week and looked fine with some nifty plays, wore an “A”, but did not get a point. Today, he started in his role as captain of the Russian U23 team in a short tourney against KHL squads, wore the C for his team, and scored twice.
The first goal is an absolute ripper on the PP. He was the only one that knew it was in at first. It came out of the net faster than most player’s shots. The second was a beauty break in alone showing off his silky mitts.

Against Michkov's old team. . Just teasing. That first goal was really something. A wrist shot that no one could follow. Wow.
