He's playing Vivaldi Summer (Storm).
There is an expression in Greek, καλλιεργημένα θηρία, which translates to cultured beasts...
And here are two of them...and a musical interlude of the classical whacked kind...
(BTW, my father was chanter (cantor?) of some note. My uncle was steeped in cafe communism and rebetika (Greek blues). He occasionally sang in local taverns although payment was all the ouzo he could drink and the morning hangovers he could endure. I, I am accomplished at braying of songs, that are best heard in deep, sealed bomb shelters, for the safety of humanity.)

An interview with Timrå head coach, and NHL great, Olli Jokinen on Oliver Kapanen. A pretty good read. It is hard to argue with the role he has been playing at Timrå so far this preseason: top line C, PP and PK time. “Worst” case scenario is he goes back and plays a year in that role on a good team in one of Europe’s elite men’s leagues.

Rookie Camp is finally just around the corner. It starts on September 11 and there should be some fun guys to watch at this camp.

Interested to see how Thorpe does... I wonder if any of it will be streamed?

It's going to be an eventful camp for several guys depending on hockey careers. Riley Kidney, Sean Farrell, Filip Mesar and (to a slightly lesser extent) Jared Davidson. Those guys have to show something. Their chances of making the Habs are still slim as the first 3 are best in the top 6 and that is a crowded, talented group to break into. Davidson is a bottom 6 guy (probably 4th line) so he has more runway. None of the (realistic) prospects on defense have any concerns other than trying to break into that those last spots in Montreal.
It will definitely be the most interesting camp in probably 30 years or more. During Berg's tenure the greatest question mark was whether Dalton Thrower could make the AHL or if Josh Brook could avoid injury. In fairness, Timmins (with Churla) were doing a really good job in the 4 years before Churla left and Berg took Timmins down with him.
Life is so much better today.

I hope Little X and Mailman don't use this camp as an opportunity to be their nasty selves! Who am I kidding? Laffs need to be taught obedience, respect and humility. Of all the players who I expect to be over the top and make an impressions, I bet it's Little X. I read elsewhere that he's now a 230 pound beast and Mailman 235. Are they trying to tilt the ice?

On 32 thoughts today, Friedman said that when he was over in Slovakia looking at some training that Slaf was going through, he looked massive. Our team seems to be (cough) growing. If our skill doesn't overwhelm anyone, we can always smash our way through them. Ha! who am I kidding?! Everyone is going to be overwhelmed by our skill.
(It feels really good to be able to be positive these days)

I believe there is a Secret Plan afoot.
Slaf grow to 250 pounds and hides CC. Ready to deploy him Alien style.
When your "heavy boned" like Slaf, picking up 20 pounds is not that hard. Probably lose half of it during the season.

Friedge was suggesting that there's even more muscle than last year. He may still weigh the same, or 5 lbs heavier, but can probably give Atlas a break from holding up the world. Can't wait for him to brush aside the Ekblads of the world.

Mrs IaC told me he clearly knows how to play based on the way he holds the violin and moves. She also said it looks ridiculous in his big mitts.

Good day for prospects in the Champions League. Both Eriksson and Rohrer had a 1+1 game. Zurich won, but Växjö lost in OT to Sheffield (!!).

No points for Demidov in a 3-1 SKA win today. Just over 13 minutes of TOI including one post. He was on the third line again, with captain Evgeny Kuznetsov. There is a YouTube link in the tweet if folks want to see his shifts. #91

There’s little that’s been said about Demidov’s shot. Both one he scored in pre-season and this one were practically invisible, they were shot so hard. Just another spectacular asset in his game. Geeze, those 4 guys picked ahead of him better be dsmn good.

Who am I kidding? Laffs need to be taught ... humility ... if there's one trait several of my Leaf fan buddies share, it's humility ... every year they're subjected to the same narrative ... they have the best team on ice, the Fab Four will take them to the Promised Land, and Mitch Marner must die ... these guys look at the whole Leaf season with guarded optimism ... they'll watch every game, every period, every shift, and they are humbled by the results every stinkin' year ... mind you, should the Leafs win another Cup, the country will explode, and that humility may fly out the window ... Oh yeah, I want to see what all the hype is about with X-Lite ... he's a 4th-rounder with potential and, if he's in Laval this year, I'll be able to see him when the Rocket hit Belleville ... Cheers.

Baby Koivu made the Liiga lineup for opening night tonight, playing on the fourth line. He recorded his first Liiga assist and point today.

That is great news for the young Koivu. Coaches in a league like Liiga expect kids to play mature hockey.

Didn't play much...something around 7 minutes. His assist was a shot directed at the net from near the blue line which was deflected. Decent play to make, but not anything magnificent. Goals don't have to be magnificent, though. Oliver Kapanen, who has developed into a pretty good prospect, doesn't score flashy goals (deflections, quick releases) but still manages to produce. I didn't mean to suggest Koivu wasn't a good pick, just that this particular goal was the basic kind. Nothing wrong with that.

Still no love for Hutson. Hutson played two games last year. The list is for only players that have not played a game. A small technicality.

Thanks for clarifying that. I rarely read the fine print. So, naturally, that means their Habs prospect pool is missing Hutson, Mailloux and Beck. Minor detail.

Eriksson sure likes the Champions League, as he seems to put up nice points in that competition. He was on the first line today and scored the GWG in a 3-1 Växjö win.

No points for Demidov on the fourth line today. SKA has not scored a goal in a while, but he still generated chances. Big shutout win today for Fucale in the other net!
