Great set up, which should have resulted in an assist for Demidov. Slaf roofs that.

If this kid ever reaches his potential, this could be another great mid round pick. After both development and rookie camp, he is definitely on most folk’s radars now. The Giants come though Alberta in early October too!

Just a few updates from Saturday’s action (no highlights unfortunately).
Rohrer scored a goal on a rebound in front of the net and also again in the shootout in a 3-2 Zurich shootout win.
Thorpe and Protz both had an assist in their games.
Ben Merrill scored his first BCHL goal in a Penticton Vees win.

I like that we focussed on drafting Hyokkaajats in this draft Looking "forward" to seeing how he does... lol I’m glad that they didn’t ask Price to make the announcement.

Although he is not generating a lot of points, at least Koivu is sticking around with the men’s team and learning good pro habits against strong competition. His ice time is slowly increasing too.

Yesterday, Rohrer scored the only goal in a 1-0 Zurich win. His 4th of the season.
Today, Koivu popped his first Liiga and pro goal.

It was pointed out that on Demidov's goal, you see him break for the net, and just before the puck gets there, he lifts the dman's stick and gets his own stick down fast enough to deflect in the puck. Smart play. Goal scorer's goal. Rohrer is certainly off to a good start. Four goals in 5 games and he only just turned 20 on the 9th. Koivu seems to be a late bloomer. That was a very nice, deceptive shot. Thorpe is at a ppg early in the season. The other prospects aren't doing much, but that's to be expected down that low in the selections and this early in the year. Their 7th round pick, Rasmus Bergqvist had to be chosen to boost Hutson's ego. Hockeydb has him listed at 5'6", 128 lbs. Someone for Lane to look down to.

Never use HockeyDB for updated height and weight info. Go to Elite Prospects or team pages. He is 6’2” 181 and has actually been getting in Champions League and SHL games in. Rather shocking for a 19 year old second last pick in the latest draft.

On Saturday night, Protz scored his first of the season and added an assist in a 6-2 Brantford win.
Last night, Vecvanags got his first regular season start for Brooks and they won 5-4 in OT. By all accounts, he has been relegated to the backup role as the Bandits have played a 19 year old Canadian goalie (who was with the team last year) in all their previous games. In other news about the Latvian, he has committed to the University of Maine. So he will continue his development in the NCAA after some BCHL seasoning.

Thanks Willie. Good examples, though I'm not certain of the criticism on one of those plays where Demidov tries to make something with a pass to late trailers. It gets intercepted yes, but there's no counterattack and no one is out of position. If he chips it in, is that any better? Great players often try and succeed with difficult plays. That one didn't come off, but that doesn't mean he should have done the 'simple' play and chip it in.
