A few other dudes had decent days yesterday. Russian obscure prospect Alexander Gordin has recently returned from injury and scored a hattrick and added an assist on his VHL team’s big 11-2 blowout win. He has not been able to ever stick at the KHL level but seems rather productive at the VHL level. He has a good shot but his skating is below average. He is all but forgotten as a “prospect” now, but he had a good game yesterday.
Thorpe added two more assists in the Giants’ win yesterday. I get to see him live for the first time next Tuesday in Red Deer. He will be in Edmonton the following week, so will see him a second time.
Demidov has been relegated to the extra forward role today. I guess there are no ends to Rotenberg’s idiocy when dealing with the defending KHL rookie of the month. Such a weird regime there.

Even Rotenberg’s not so stupid as to sit your most talented player who also works hard. I’ve got the over/under as Nov 30th. Especially if we have some more injuries.

How about that Hage kid? The team may be young and rebuilding, but he is going to rock with the ice time and exposure. First NCAA goal and four points so far.

How about that Hage kid? The team may be young and rebuilding, but he is going to rock with the ice time and exposure. First NCAA goal and four points so far. That move to switch from stick handling to shooting was absolutely blazingly fast. I had to rewatch it several times (ok, I need a new glasses prescription) to catch how he did it. Usually, defensemen anticipate that play and are ready for it, but if it's done as fast as Hage does it, Dmen are going to have to find a new way to counter it. Wow that was quick!

Hage plays the game and processes it at speed. Those are such NHL transferable skills. When you add his current skill level, he should be a fun one to watch. And the kid is also driven to be a Hab. He will need to thicken and build strength on his 18 year old body, as he is typically wiry for kids his age. That is normal and should come with time and gym work.

The upside on Hage is huge. He could be in the Demidov, Slaf level of production at his peak. I chuckled yesterday when Boston University proudly blared out that Cole Eiserman had scored his first goal of his NCAA career. Meanwhile the guy picked ahead of him has a 2 ppg average. Ok, I'm being cheeky because it's early in the season, but the point was that Hage was the best player on the ice in those two games against Minnesota, which is a strong team. That's really good for an 18 year old college rookie.

Hage with the third of the season last night. Great zone entry and pass to start it all, and then go to the net for the nice tip.
Fowler started his season off with a shutout win.

Quite a long time between starts, but Vecvanags made 23 saves on route to a 6-2 Brooks win last night. He is 2-0 on the season.
A rare loss for Fowler as Michigan State prevailed 4-3 over BC yesterday.

Just a sweet goal by Demigod... the goalie barely moved And he was back to getting a regular shift instead of the 3-4 minutes of ice time / game he's been getting of late.

Michigan played 41 games last year, 24 in conference. At his current pace Hage would finish with 31-31-62. That wouldn't be too shabby.

Another rookie of the week in the KHL for Demidov last week. Funny what happens when Rotenberg actually lets him play.
