Great guy. One of the gutsiest players ever and one of the worst fighters ever, but always willing.

From habseyesontheprize, Aug. 3, 2009:
During the 1960’s, when he was at his peak, Bobby Hull was asked about the defensemen who were toughest on him, at a time when Hull was shredding defenses every night.
“Terry Harper”, he said, “plays me as well or better than any defenseman in the league. I can never seem to get around him.”

That was a good clip ... Ralph, I remember Terry Harper being a bleeder like, ... Johnny "Pie Face" McKenzie ...
Cheers.

I remember him as a tough guy who had no problem dropping them. It's just too long ago to remember any of his fights but I think he was a middle heavyweight in terms of fighting and toughness.
At that time you didn't **** with the Habs. If Harper didn't realign a face, there was Fergy...and Tardiff...and Lapointe...and Bouchard...and Larose...and P Mahovolich...and Roberto...
Habs were never accused as lovers, but always as winners.

Habs were never accused as lovers, but always as winners. For much of Harper's early years, Fergie was there and so was Ted Harris, who was another guy you did not want to tangle with. Savard and Lapointe eventually helped Terry ease off the Habs as they were just too good. Robinson was about to arrive, but early 70's was still just outside that time window.

We hear about the Big Bad Booins and the Broad Street Bullies but in reality the Habs had big, tough, nasty teams all throigh the 60s and 70s.
They started to back off in the 80s and by the late 90s, we were a joke. We imported has-been heavy weights but never had the toughness of the Promised Land era.
Now, we got a few home grown in the team or coming up. If they all make it, there will be at least several who can drop them and a few that no one will want to drop them against. Almost...almost like the Fergy era.
BTW...in 3 games with X in the lineup, i saw only one cheap shot...and it was addressed.
Let's see tonight...
