Okay, so I guess there's some rumour coming from this "MolsonMan" poster is that there is a bigger trade that is all but done. Whether you believe him or not is irrelevant for this thread, but more so, who could be bigger than Kovalev that might in reality be had? This is all just fodder for fun speculation.
The only player that fits the bill here is......Jagr. Washington is picking up close to half his salary. If the Rangers can be convinced to pick up say a couple million a year of the remainder and make good on the deferred payment plus interest, then it's makes economic sense to get him and have him here to turn the Habs into a scoring machine.
So have at it people...what do you say? (be nice now)
p.s. My apologies if this thread has been duplicated triplicated.

I'm not sure its Jagr but maybe it will involve a multi player deal that includes a D man and another scoring forward. Then again it could be the same useless fodder we hear just to get everybody whipped into a frenzy for the shear publicity. For a guy who once posted here and is now reported to be officially retired he sure is geting alot of people on several boards hanging on every word. What Hab fan doesn't want the team to become a legit contender.Theres gonna be alot of dissappointed fans if this rumour doesn't go down.Speculate away! HFTO

Well, I can see a multiplayer deal as playing with fire when it comes to team chemistry. I know Bob has to trim some extra weight we're carrying right now some players have to go out the door. I would think collecting draft picks for 2005 might be in order to help replenish the cupboard a bit. The only probelms I can see with a Jagr deal is Slats would probably insist on Garon+pick/prospect, if not more. We're pretty thin there (goal), but, is the time right now to grab Jagr while he's dangling out there (if indeed he can be had). No one seems to be talking about him. Also, what does this leave us with on the ice?
This all brings me back to ole Red's historical words, "show me the players". This move would be a defiant reply.

Wouldn't touch Jagr at all. The room is together right now. Kovalev said it best, the problem with the Rangers was too many stars. Jagr has been a coach killer in his carreer. We have a coach right now that the players respect and play for. Just look at our 5 game winning streak, Ward, Begin, Sunny, all playing in the final minutes...You think they won't go to war for Julien? Don't screw around with Chemistry Bob, go for the "team guy" not the "guy".

Take Jagr only only only only if you can immediately flip him -- don't let him near the team or the coach. Come on . . . we aren't that desperate to fall apart, are we?

This chess match is too much for me....may an infinitely more intelligent Hab hockey mind prevail to allow me to down a few wobblies and enjoy the ride.

I would hope that the Habs stay away from Jagr. He is exactly the type of player that the dressing room does not need right now.
Kovalev was good. Jagr would be bad.
Just my opinion, of course.
